Starting on a serious note, who turned down the thermostat? Come one joke is over now, turn it back up. It was cool in and out of the water today. We first noticed it was cold when John B. walked along the waters edge taking several readings. The first reading came in at 14.6 degrees so he walked along until he found something a little more enticing and 15.4 degrees was about as good as it got.
See John here talking to people about his water temp taking escapade this morning. I don’t think he is convincing anyone it is warm out there.
I even found some of the sea creatures coming out for a little more warmth
Look who is back to join us on the coldest day of the year. Rainer (Lips) is back and double layered up this morning. Apparently due to jet larg he is tired. Not sure how the wetsuit helps him, but each to their own. So, how did you go Rainer?
He has been gone so long that his name has dissapeared of the attendence list. This is a first Rainer.
We pass some of the early morning swimmers who all say that it is beautiful and in the water this morning. Their bodies are telling a different story with a nice dash of redness all over their skin. Andrew your positivity is to be admired, but somehow I don’t believe you..
Nicki looking well ahhhh, looking a little rosier than usual. I think her body is working overtime to warm her up. (stephen c)
Some of the swimmers found it harder than others, but at least they are still smiling. (photo thanks to stephen C). Have you warmed up yet girls?
Even our trooper Lesley found it a little cold on her approach in the seas. Having the arms up won’t help Lesley. One way or another it’s slowly going to creep on in.
Rusty leaves the others behind without hesitation and plunges into the waters. Come on guys it’s like a bath in here. You say what Lesley ” You can’t feel your legs”. Legs Shmegs, once their numb you’ll be fine……, Come on, legs go!!!!
Not long after we get out into the water we came across a Port Jackson Shark. It’s always a good distraction from the cold. Nick, Stephen, Elaine & I were like the Paparazzi surrounding it. I think the shark should be more afraid of humans that we are of them. (stephen c)
So Angelic in the water. I could watch sharks all day (just the small ones of course)
The family of squid are always so reliable. If you haven’t seen them they are just as you are leaving shelly near the walkway side. Keep your eyes wide open as they are small and very quick.
You might need your glasses on to spot them in this photo.
We can always rely on the Yellow Tail for photos.
The sunlight dances in the seaweed creating the most stunning backdrop.

Fantastic blog post! Really captured the chilly but exuberant atmosphere. An exhilarating swim.
Well done spotting the squids, as I looked very carefully on the cypress run and I couldn’t find them anywhere.

When I first walked into the water the edge was super cold but on my return the same edge of water now felt WARM …that’s how cold the swim was!

Welcome back, Lips! And I’m sure it’s welcome back to your wetsuit too…
Funny how Shelly always moves further away when one doesn’t swim for a while…
When the water temp drops below 15, I stop wishing I could join you all! Looks like 007 had his work cut out this morning to record a temp above 15. Maybe he should revert to using MC’s thermometer!

There will be cuttlefish Thursday. I can’t get enough of them! Such clear shots Renae and great blog! So nice to have Lips back. I’ve just bought Ted a wetsuit, only $10 from an op shop, a ‘Rocket Science’ one, $500 new!

Great blog post Renae.
You caught the morning perfectly. Love the photos. The ocean is so clear at the moment. It’s captivating.
Despite what the thermometer may say, I’m loving not being in a wet-suit. It’s so exciting and invigorating! And once you get the arms pumping – it’s all good.
Like John Bond and I say EVERY morning – ‘it’s practically balmy!’ or have we gone ‘balmy’?.

Great blog Renae. As always. Thanks everyone for the warm hugs this morning. Good to be back!
I knew I’d be teased for putting on my wetsuit this morning. But seriously, I hadn’t been swimming in more than three weeks. Add to that my jet lag and it’s a miracle I made it to shelly WITH wetsuit!
How great is visibility at the moment!!

So true LSA! Swimming to shelly felt like a double bolderdash this morning. And there were no 6:59ers to accompany me!!

Yes Rusty I I think we may have gone balmy today, but the water is so clear at the moment. I still enjoyed the swim.
Great pics. The water clarity shows in the shot of the PJ over the sand. It must have been cold with those blue faces.

I can’t even imagine being encased in a wetsuit, it’s so invigorating and fresh without.

Great blog – now I’m really looking forward to my chilly swim in the morning after reading your comments and looking at the gorgeous photos. Hurrah for winter without a wetsuit!

Almost finished with China operations – just the trial of Bo Xi Lai on Thursday to take care of, then straight to Thailand & Vietnam for an undercover op. for a month.
You’ll appreciate he needs to lie low (just like a jet-lagged Lips), but will give him a prod….
DWTG, bet you’re climbing over everyone in the PC wwww (whole winter without wetsuit)! Loved the TG pic!
