28/09/2017 – “Not the best swim ever”…!

28/09/201713

Well thats what Clare said as I walked back from halfway with her, but of course this was followed by …”but I don’t regret it!” Nobody in the history of the B&B has actually ever regretted a swim I’m sure! (Well maybe after the odd serious sting but we haven’t had Bluebottles or Jimbles for ages!)

Around 120 swimmers today got their Vitamin Sea/Dr Salt and look at their glowing faces at Shelly! Jenny, Emma, Lisa and co look pretty radiant but it felt colder than the 17.9 recorded! Visibility was low but air temperature nice and warm.

A few of us were on tele recently extolling the benefits of our ocean swim! I don’t think anybody has actually seen it but it’s been on Channel 7 2 a couple of times apparently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giP2kCIZYtI&feature=youtu.be&t=4m58s

I was interviewed about the swim and waffled on about the amazing people, marine life and badges for ages. They cut most of it out but did record me saying, ‘It just feels so dam good!’

There were some big sets coming in at Manly so we were advised by Shaun, (aspiring middle management), to walk around to half way to get in.

Peter Ley showing us the ocean is the key to looking young!

Gorgeous Cath in between delivering babies she enjoys her B&B swim!

This was early morning Manly today with another gorgeous sky!

Shelly and Rusty before their 6.30am swim

Here’s flight attendant Emma who is performing in the Quantas Revue in November. Quite a few swimmers went last year and it sounded amazing! Tickets on sale soon!

A few photos below from the last 2 weeks…

Nat in ‘Diamondfish Alley’!

 They are so pretty!

Hope you saw Wilf in The Manly Daily last week, Thursday or Friday I think. He is now healthy and well again and  available for counselling if you know anyone who may be interested.

Monthly Dinner – 10th October 2017 – Guest Speaker

The next B&B monthly dinner will be held on Tuesday 10th October at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be one of our regular swimmers, John Bryan, whose talk is entitled “Life after the Tsunami

John has travelled widely in Japan and speaks fluent Japanese. He will talk about how the Japanese are re-estabishing coastal communities in North East Japan, and how the Tohoku people are handling life after the tsunami (now 6yrs ago), and protecting and rebuilding their towns.

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Have a fantastic day!

Lainey

I found this vid from 2012 when BnB was still small of us all going in at half way like it was nothing! We were ‘braver’ back then!! 😳😳

Like penguins leaping off an Antarctic icefloe into the briny void… most exciting footage of brave early BnBers

Not for me thanks. Rocks+waves give me the willies. Much more comfortable with a strong rip in a big shore break.

There was more sand and less rocks back then, not as dangerous as it is now with all of that erosion

Great blog Lainey! It was a different swim today but still very enjoyable. All your photos are fun, colourful and highlight the joys of the swim. Love the photo of Em and Nat’s underwater shots. Beautiful blogging

I’m with you Paul. I almost lost a leg at those halfway stairs a few years ago. I’d take big swell and killer rip at the surf beach over that treacherous halfway exit any day!
    Great blog Lainey!

Shelley, I thought your nightmare involved a tub of honey, a roll of gaffer tape, two guinea pigs and a Trump mask?
Nothing I can do about that one but I’m happy to teach you how to body surf and to swim out through breaking waves.
