While Millie is at her first Coolangata Gold, Merman and Frangi talk tactics… how to beat her swimming
It’s 19.0C Someone check the Bakers thermometer! Heaven knows if he bakes with that thing.
The corner is pumping today. Drinks orders the DX to dance to the shoreline. And a cuttlefish close to Shelly. DC salutes
You will make me laugh and make me cry
Guy is seen lurking, and a chalk temperature is up. But I know it is not him. The temp is not accurate.
Rusty’s Race Report
That’s me in the corner. Contemplating how to beat the speedy Caroline in our Friday race. A flat track, despite Frangi’s predictions of a 1-2 foot surge which means she’s going to 1..3 to 1.44 pace. My best without flipper assistance is around 1.42, a long distant memory. The words of a mate from Perth, Mark Allen, ring in my ear. insert the small finger first. Special K has me doing 5 stroke breaths. And Brett and the Ocean Swimmers sprint gang have got my high elbow above and below the water. Voices in my head. Caroline plays up my chances, wrecking my confidence. Kathy and Alana walk in, talking tactics and long distance swims around Great Keppel. My brain spins. Capless and Gary head across early with me, Capless rhythm perfect for my nerves. Gentlemen start your engines… and we’re off. I stick to Caroline’s toes… and she’s slowly pulls away. Crystal clear, perfect conditions. I hit the point and can see her in my sights, ridiculously close yet too far. A wave? Nope? Cut the corner, at points walking across the reef. Still short. Triumphant she sprints to the sand, big grin. Well done. Geez that was close. Her 1.45 Strava vs my 1.55. Something dodgy. But geez she’s fast. Cracking swim.
The 2 6am gangs are drinking coffee before most of us are out of bed. Cheers to Brett for getting me closer to the front of the DX pack!
Thanks for the swim and coffee Team. Remember don’t let your true love run cold!
Cheers,
