What season you say? The season for long swims which is the same as summer. Speaking of long swims, there was a 2,000 km celebration tunnel for Craig. But he got it on AfterPay ie before the swim.
Congratulations Craig!!!
Today we also celebrated being joined by swimmers from Orange. I love this gourmet destination not the least because they grow apples and NOT oranges there. I like their attitude. Nearby they have Mt Canoblas, Ophir – ideal for orienteering, and Blayney where there was/is an abattoir and it snows. So good to be joined by the swimmers from Orange!
Gunnar was sent off by Shaun and Laveena for a 6 km swim. Gunnar was joined by Janet, Carolyn, Keith, Rusty, and a few others (according to the daily view). Other people may have swum but not logged. There is such a thing as swimming WITHOUT logging.
Others were getting ready to do the 7 am thing or their own thing
It has been a long time since I last took a photo of the A Team next to the A Team tree. Here they are looking great
The gorgeous Funkita swim cap (and hairdo) caught my eye
John says it is too early for a 6 km. But that is wrong. BB has resumed. It is calm and it is December
Into the water we go. It was calm and warm (20.4) but a grey sky.
The heart on the Queenscliff headland
And Allan at the Freshwater Pool – photo taken by me who also swam the 6km route. Thanks to Allan for waiting even though it involved more water treading and waiting than swimming.
B&B is BACK!!
From 1st December the Bold and Beautiful Swim Squad will resume. This means that the regular daily 7 am group swim will recommence. We request that you note the following:
- Current NSW government regulations do not require a Covid Plan for outdoor active recreation activities with up to 1000 fully vaccinated adults. If you are not fully vaccinated, please refrain from swimming with the group until Government regulations allow.
- Maintain physical distancing. NSW Health advice is to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection by staying 1.5 metres away from other people where possible and avoiding close contact with people you do not live with. In order to stay safe, please observe all Government requirements related to this aspect. It would be helpful and safer if swimmers use the beach, rather than the walkway to gather before and after the swim.
- Log your swim on our log-in site (HERE), so that we have a means of assisting contact tracing should this become necessary. If you don’t have a log-in, please sign up here.
- Be aware of and courteous to other swimmers. There will be many swimmers in the bay at once. If you collide with another swimmer, please stop and check that there has been no injury sustained, and the other swimmer does not need assistance.
Our information desk will operate every day from 6.30 to 7 am. New swimmers can sign up at that time and collect their free pink cap, courtesy of Manly Paradise Beachfront Motel and Apartments.
Volunteers Greeters Needed
In order to lighten the load on our regular and aging team, we are calling for volunteers to assist by helping at our information desk each morning to greet and induct new swimmers. You can volunteer for a regular day (weekly, fortnightly or monthly), or for random, backup assistance. You will need to be at Manly before 6.30 am to set up the desk and be able to pack away the desk after your swim. Training will be provided if required. Please contact Ian (ugoboyo@gmail.com) if you can assist. This is your chance to help ensure that our treasured group continues to flourish.
SUMMER BADGES
As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, we look forward to a return to our normal summer swims. Three long distance swims are on offer, all of which will earn you a badge:
- The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning generally starting at 7 am. The first 6 km swim will be on Saturday 4th December.
- There is also a 10 km swim once a month over summer, also generally starting with the 7 am swim. Dates for these will be announced in the blog.
- If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30 or 7 am.
By popular demand, we have decided to retain the summer challenge and super swimmer badges which were both well-received last summer. This year we will have the following badges:
-
- Summer Challenge – swim 30 times over summer, and swim in at least 7 different weeks
- Summer Super Swimmer – swim 50 times over summer
In order to be eligible for any/all of these badges you must log your swims in i-Log. If you don’t have a log-in, please sign up HERE. All swims must be at Manly (unless we have further lockdowns). Covid swims will cease on 1 December. HAPPY SWIMMING.

Unfortunately the Christmas Party on 7th December is now sold out. If you wish to be added to the waiting list for cancellations, can you please email Ian (ugoboyo@gmail.com)
