Sat 10/10: On this day…

10/10/20155

Did you know that on this day…

… in 1846 the largest moon of the planet Neptune was discovered? (Triton)

… in 1897 an improved way of synthesising aspirin was uncovered by German chemist Felix Hoffmann?

… in 1911 the Qing dynasty came to a close with the Wuchang Uprising, leading to the foundation of the Republic of China?

… in 1942 the Soviet Union began diplomatic relations with Australia?

… in 1970 Fiji became independent?

… there are 82 days left in the year?

It is also World Mental Health Day today. Approximately 134 of us chose to replenish ourselves by dipping in the invigorating and healing properties of the ocean.  Conditions were glorious, despite being a little cloudy under the surface.  Some B&Bers finally opted to ditch the winter wetsuit.  I stopped a couple of times on the way over to watch other pink hats bobbing over to Shelley.  Happy Birthday splash goes to Lisa.

 Caption this?

They are the watchers on the wall.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Anna 😀

B&B Monthly Dinner – this coming Tuesday!

The next B&B monthly dinner will be this coming Tuesday 13th October at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker for the night will be one of our own swimmers, Merrilee Linegar, who is a qualified nutritionist and herbalist. Merrilee’s topic for the night will be Brain Longevity. The way you live your life today affects how your brain functions tomorrow. Merrilee will discuss how natural medicine, diet and lifestyle improvements can optimise brain function, prevent memory loss and decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s. While most of us keep our bodies fit by swimming regularly, we often forget about our brains. Don’t miss this one!

The cost of the dinner is only $25 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (including a vegetarian option), corkage (for BYO wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please BOOK HERE NOW

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Thanks Anna. Wilf told me about the Triton discovery just the other day. Him and his mates glued to the telegraph for hours. Kind of the moon landing of his generation!
