THUNDERBALL: The Ten-Kilometre Swim in detail
Mr John Bond organises three 10-K swims each summer. The second one was held last Saturday, and there were about 20 starters. (Ten were new; all completed the task.) It begins with the regular 7 a.m. mob; splits off at The Point upon return … re-groups under Queenscliff cliff … reaches to far point at Freshwater’s pool (below Harbord Diggers cliff) … back to Queenscliff … back to The Point at Manly. At this stage, any Six Kilo swimmers are complete and exit, and the 10-K mob also leaves the water for first time since starting – to refresh and revive. An eski has been stored inside Surf Club, and volunteers will set it up on a small table at foot of entry ramp. Bananas, grapes, chocolate, Gatorade and water etc. Vaseline and sun-block re-applied. The group then swims to Shelly Beach again; returns to The Point; and does another return trip to Queenscliff. And there you go – ten kilometres swum and done. A bit over three hours of actual swimming but, as the group waits at each staging point in order to re-bunch, overall it’s around four hours. Badges Ceremony is at the end of summer, once again in grounds of Far West Hospital across road.
Third and final SIX and TEN KILOMETRE SWIMS
Date: Saturday 7th March
Time: 7 a.m.
Volunteers: Speak to John Bond

Well done Ros. Get well soon Gayle. It is getting darker in the morning. How do the early swimmers manage swimming in the dark?

1,000 kms = 1,000,000 swim stokes.
I hope you will compose another academic treatise on the beneficial effects of regular activity in saline solution with friendly support. I’d bet such a book would go viral
Now that’s out of the way…………… can I buy you a coffee ?
