Nippers, Blueys and a Gala Dinner

March 9, 20240

I swam at 6:05 this morning, was in a rush to catch up to the 6am crew and forgot to look at Guy’s temp and artwork. Grabbed a pic on the way back and confirmed my suspicions that it was the warmest water we’ve had in a while.

Before I get to the Nippers and Blueys, I wanted to let everyone know about a great opportunity to support some of our local swimmers who train with the Manly Swimming Club. The club is hosting a gala dinner on May 11th (details below), celebrating achievements at the Paris 1924 Olympics – 4 of Australia’s 6 medals at these games were won by Manly swimmers – and looking ahead to Paris 2024 and the bright future ahead for many of our local athletes. Feel free to call me (Tim) with any questions – 0410 442 532.

Back to this morning’s swim, which was indeed splendid until I reached a swarm of bluebottles about 20m out from Shelly beach. The first one got me on the lips, which are still swollen. No selfies, but I did immediately think of Rainer! Things seemed much nicer back at the point, and stories of Blueys at shelly plus the sight of my lips convinced most later swimmers to head north.
At the Queensie end of our beach is day 3 of the Nippers state age championships. Perfect conditions for their comp, kids have come from all over the state to test their skills in the surf and on the sand.
Back at our end of the beach the local clubbies get to escape the mayhem on their boards & skis.
Still feels like summer…enjoy it while it lasts!
Tim
