Today:
Little bit grey with the sunrise, although the sun is forecast to join us later in the day, it was nice and warm still.
Some were bangin’ out a few postures before work..

The Polar Vortex – even though mainly affecting the other side of the planet, has started to show some influence in the Southern Hemisphere, with the tick sheets going missing. This form of climate phenomena is rarely seen, and a state of near emergency has been declared..
Unfortunately the handwriting was SO BAD, that we are unable to record names written on the sheet this morning. (this is not one of my hilarious jokes)
The Office of Homeland Security has coded the online app so that you will be able record your swim retrospectively!
Instructions:
To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com) or Lesley Coulter (lesleycoulter@yahoo.com.au).

See what happens when you spend too much time at the sheet.. this gentlemen leaving himself open to merciless photobombing by Lucy (better than Rainer eh?)

This is what you should look like – checking in in style….

This morning we were joined by a couple of rock stars from years past … Ladies and Gentlemen…
The Proclaimers!
Elaine Kindred said in an interview: “Walking and Miles are soooooooooo last week. We’re into swimming and kilometers now!”

We noticed there were a lot of generations and families today

I even got to do the “let’s go!”… for the first time.. which was quite fun..
I will therefore be available for future “let’s goes”

Nathan Doyle – of Famous Faces Trivia fame, is training his 4 kids – they swam the WHOLE WAY to Shelley and back!
How good is that!?

Anthony, Tim, Katey and Kimmy (youngest 8!)
Statisticians, is that a record??

OK… not feeling bad for sleeping in?
How about now??

Some 6km pics.
The 6k is a great swim! We have groups going every Saturday until March. You can organise your own as well.
Last Saturday Brendan Maher put out the word for a “slow group 6am start” which was perfect.
Vaseline (or some waterproof lubricant) and energy food or drinks are highly advisable. If you’ve been doing the Shelley Swim for a while now and it’s like a pool lap, try this for a new challenge!

This is the shark net off Queenscliff. There is a growing call for these to be banned.
The nets don’t run the entire length of the beach, only intervals of a hundred metres or so, and then there is space in between. The net starts about 4m below the surface and runs to the bottom. I didn’t see anything caught last Saturday…

These two little guys were the only predators in the water – they nibbled my toes all the way to Freshwater..

Just like a Phuket beauty parlour….

It was a little choppy at the North end .. that makes it interesting 🙂
Jalna and I did this lap..

The end of the 6k – as you can see smiling and upright…

Underwater action this week – It was a BIG week….

Swimming with Fi Fi out the back of the beach we ran into this Shovel Nosed Ray…

Lots of rays and other wildlife being stirred up by our friend Silky…..

Most things swimming in the bay just running for cover this week….

And ths is why…

Big blog. Great photos. Congrats on your 500k Nick!
Love the shots of Nathan’s kids. Don’t think I’ve ever seen an 8-year-old doing the full Shelly return swim without board! Ava better get her skates on..
Lucy – welcome back to C1. You call that a photo bomb?
Nurse J – Muwhahaha!

For the 10km swimmers tomorrow, I will be meeting them halfway. I’ll be bringing water, gatorade, grapes, bananas, snakes(lollies), vaseline & sunscreen.
TIP – make sure you’re up to the 10km distance.
– get a good night sleep.
See you tomorrow.

I don’t who I’m more impressed by: Lucy’s photobomb, or those 4 wonderful children, or the swimmer on crutches! Thanks Nick: it’s great to see the personal stories.

Great photos Nick, and congrats on the 500km!! Legend!!
Actually I must confess but mine isn’t even Photobomb of the Day. That goes to Ted for photobombing some poor unsuspecting new swimmer’s Wall of Fame photo!! Dutch courage. Geddit?!!
Thanks for welcoming me back into the warm embrace of column one, Lips. It’s good to be home (by 0.5km).

Every 10k swim Maureen meets us before the swim, carts all the drinks, food, sunscreen, lollies etc up to Curly and then meets us back at Manly afterwards. Thanks so much Maureen we couldn’t do it without you.
