Staying safe

CLEANER BEACHES
This from Bronwyn, at her signatures trestle:
“I am asking for signatures on my petition to Manly Council – to seek additional methods (besides the sifting tractor) when cleaning the harbour side’s Manly Cove. The tractor collects large pieces of rubbish, but cannot gather smaller pieces such as plastics and cigarette butts. It also does not clean to the water’s edge, where much of the rubbish accumulates. Manly Cove is filthy. There is a lot of rubbish in Manly Cove’s waters, as well as the continual rubbish which gets washed up onto its beaches.
“I’m from Brisbane, and couldn’t believe there are Little Penguins living there. I have been cleaning Manly Cove now for around 18 months. It is a significant Australian historical site. Under the wharf (where one colony lives), it’s often full of rubbish – which is rarely removed by Council. I hope this petition will see Manly Council explore then implement sustainable rubbish-collection methods and also encourage a better co-ordination with other Sydney Harbour councils and authorities, so that the accumulation of rubbish is significantly diminished.
“I’m seeking 2000 signatures, and currently have 430. I’ll be at Manly Beach throughout this week and over the weekend, from around 7 a.m – 8.30 a.m. Your help in signing the petition would be greatly appreciated.”
