Zoot Fusion Wetsuit style S8MWS52 (2009-2013)
Zoot lasted five seasons of swimming with B&B serving as a swimming turbocharger for its owner through more than 800 kms of open water swims.
Alas Zoot suffered a massive haemorrhage on the way to Shelly last Thursday. The rip was fatal.
.
Zoot had lived an active life that largely paralleled the life of our beloved B&B experiencing the best of what B&B has on offer (check out the dates in the archives section of the blog) such as:
Receiving the 5 winter challenge badges (4 from Jules & Michael) + 1 from Ian.
Four Australia Day B&B swims
Crossed the heads on 12 Feb 2011
Sang “Wish me luck as you wave me good by”to scatter Bruce’s ashes on 24 June 2012
Swam with the whale 24 July 2012
Was frightened by the sight of Billy as B&B’s first mankini wearer 25 Feb 2012
Today was no exception in the B&B cycle of life:
1st Boulderdash contingent 5.50am
2nd (6am) Boulderdash contingent contained the full B&B cycle of life – Daniel & Sarah (expecting March 2014) with Grandads to be Alan & Rob
Sunrise
Tractor
The early bird catches the free home hatched eggs
Bruce led todays 6.30 Drinks express
Some nice waves
So Drinky & Storchy took the surfing option
transport
Welcome Tom, the first Newbie of the day.
It was tri-athlete central today judging by the shaved bodies and event/race t-shirts
My only wildlife shot – the last of the mutton birds?
My cool gradchildren Leila (4) and Max (2) were born after I bought Zoot so they have know about Pa’s B&B swimming, PJs, whales & turtles their entire lives.
Simon (filling in for or Sharon & Stephen)
P.S.
Following on from Renae’s puzzle I propose we start a B&B Dag’s Dictionary. Your challenge is to come up with a new word that accurately describes the awkward moment that occurs when the swimmer is about to remove his or her swimmers from under the towel. I await your suggested additions to the B&B Dag’s Dictionary.

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
Bold and Beautiful Swim School
Sarah Anne Evans, B&B’s official Pacific Jules swim coach, has organised a group swim school at Shelley Beach for any willing B&B swimmers who want to improve their style. The cost is $30 and it’s limited to 15 people. During the 90 minute session Sarah Anne and Warren Evans will be covering how to swim with more efficiency, flow and speed! If the water is clear and calm enough they will film each person for feedback after the session via email.
The latest date available for the B&B Swim School is 21st December.
(This will be the last swim school for the year. More next year. Schools on 30 November and 14 December are both full)

I lost my sunnies this morning!
They are made by Prada, however as they are multi-focals to my presciption they can not be worn by anyone else. (I am wearing them in the last photo.)
If you know where they are please call me on 0404805413.

Thank you. I was one of the newbies today and enjoyed this mornings swim. I did venture via the stairs rather then through the surf. I hope to join the earlier swim groups one weekend that I can manage the trek in from Fairfield.

Welcome to the group, Kylee. When I first went in at half way someone gave me a tip I still use; on your way back from Shelly, at about 20 metres (?) from the steps when you are getting ready to swing in towards the steps, aim straight for the telegraph pole. That way you miss the rocks on either side as you come in.

Great, fun blog Simon! RIP Zoot, love the shots showing what he’s been through but a shame we didn’t get the mankini photo 😉
That moment could be described as ‘Giveusaneyefull’, a ‘Friendly Flash’ or ‘showinmabits’!?!!

RIP Zoot – you’ll be missed! Hope he finds happiness in wetsuit heaven…..
Love the sign off pic and the shot of the gorgeous grandchildren.
As for the dags dictionary, I propose “flashdance”, although that more accurately describes that moment when you’re hopping around after a foot gets caught in your cozzie during removal and you’re desperately trying to keep hold of your towel at the same time! Cue a plug for the new B and B hooded towels……….

Zoot still has a vivid memory as he flew past the mankini, under the water the entire yellow material ballooned. All I can say is I’m glad there were no bucks parties and Sacha Baron Cohen was only 3yrs old when I was married in 1974.

All may not be lost! Check out this company Simon. They’ve resurrected a few wetsuits for me and my clients in the last year.

Simon, With absolutely no disrespect to Mr Bruce Baird, I did not think I had that many similarities when you referred to “Bruce” instead of “Danny ” leading out the 6.30am Drinks Express! Danny

Oh Zoot! Great blog, Simon! I’m sure if you send the blog to the company, they’ll sponsor you and dress you in zoots for life!
Perhaps Leila and Max too – I can see they’ll be in pink caps in no time!
One of the best sign-off pics ever……:-)))

Sorry Danny
I obviously mixed up my notes from another photo (not used) of Bruce ( not Baird) Fiona and Stirling
