Happy Mardi Gras everyone!

02/03/20192

There was a bit of trepidation about swimming today. Yesterday a slimy sludge appeared in the bay and lots of frothy foam labelled algae bloom took over the scenic route. But, as it happens often, you turn up anyway for a swim, and have a pleasant surprise that things aren’t what you thought they would be and it turned out to be a lovely swim down the bay and back.

On arrival to the beach, a young boy contemplated the surf and what to do.

Two newbies made sure they read the information pamphlet carefully from front to back:

The pack makes it way down the ramp and into the bouncy waves:

A beautiful sunrise hit the sky and crowd as they waited at the point:

It was Peter’s birthday yesterday and today he swam with his son:

In each direction today I saw jellies, luckily no stings and not as many sea lice as during the week:

We did see a dusky at the point, that I”m told had been in shallow waters near the flags!

And some diamond fish;

I tried to capture the brown sludge from below but really it just looks like a reflection:

There were people doing a 10km swim at the 7am time and another early group also. These people came ashore for a quick drink and bite to eat after 6km before heading in for the last 4km

Marc swam with his son Ollie and then introduced Milo, the cutest and softest little pup

lots of milling about afterwards to chat and chill:

Stats from today: 24 newbies, temperature 25!! and total attendance 390.

there’s a meeting tomorrow about the drum lines at the south steyne surf club at 8.30am, please come and listen.

    Well done to all the swimmers who completed the 6k or 10k ocean challenge,the last one for the season. Good conditions between the Point and Freshwater,unlike Shelly Beach.
