Get your geek on!

19/12/20193

The sky had its own pink cap floating above Cabbage Tree Bay this morning which prompted me to look up!
As swimmers we spend a lot of our time looking down!
And why wouldn’t we? We are blessed with the most amazing Bay, full of cool things to see !

But once in a while it’s a good idea to get your geek on, raise your heads and look to the skies. Especially when the ISS is zooming overhead! The ISS stands for International Space Station and it circumnavigates the globe in just 90 minutes! It uses the force ( no…not that force) …of gravity and essentially falls to the earth until it needs to relaunch itself like a slingshot, when it gets too close  to our atmosphere. Astronauts, up to 6 at a time, from all over the world, live and work on the ISS! The Russians,

Americans, Italians. Chinese, Japanese, to name a few…living in harmony floating around the planet. Apart from gazing at   sunrise and sunset every 45 minutes they also perform experiments and take photos! ( Just like us bloggers down here in our little corner of the world. )

They document everything they experience as they zoom along at 8kms per second, a quick mathematical calc. makes that 27,600 km/h in an orbit of 408 km! Totally cool stats!

How do you see the ISS? I hear your nerdy self ask! There’s an app available for free! Remarkably named the ‘ISS spotter’, It pinpoints the exact location of the station for you to follow.

The next visible sighting is tonight at 9.52pm. The football field sized mega structure will be flying from the SW to the SE.

Have you seen the ISS? …I asked some of these earthly beings !

These early swimmers weren’t sure! Except the guy in uniform..he knew!

These guys were concerned I was blogging about ISIS…it’s ok I reassured them I wasn’t!

This group except the the coffee fiend on the end were also perplexed! I left them as they chatted away about it.

Ian and Sherry-Ann posed beautifully next to the board ( how cute is that swimming Santa?) Ian thought ISS…stool for International swimming society! I like that one.

Lainey and Sue has no idea what the ISS. But Lainey wondered if they can see our pink caps! Probs.

So these guys weren’t sure about what ISS stood for! But they knew what SIM and ISU stood for! NFI fellas!

Michael was being a bit naughty this morning…surprise me! He told poor Jeffery here that he looked like an IUD in that cap…I made him apologise! He also wondered what an STD was…hmmm…straight to the naughty chair Michael.

Back on earth the swim was bumpy but fun. Signing off and don’t forget to look up!

FYI

Monica and Emilio were photographed yesterday and Lainey, who blogged yesterday, would like to send them a cheerio.

Have a great day all and don’t forget to look to the skies after you’ve looked to the bottom of the ocean!

Exciting News from Dorset Sutton

I’ve just been advised by SIMS Project Cray team that they are extremely happy with the Crayweed planting opposite the Bower Cafe …there are now over 100 Craybabies growing within about 10m of the mat! And we only started planting in March …

This answers the question B&B swimmers ask me every day…how are they going !!!

So ..here’s the answer !! This is the start of Crayweed regeneration ..and to the bringing back of crays to CTB! And so many swimmers helped in the planting to be part of the process to help make this happen !!

Pauline’s Annual Gogglebox Sale

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Every year about this time, Pauline gets sick of all the lost property junking up her car, so she sorts it all out and sells it at bargain prices, just to get rid of it. This year the sale will be next Saturday 21st  December, so get there early to get the best gear. CASH ONLY. Goggles, swimsuits and other swimming paraphernalia will be on sale from 6.15 am, so if you have lost any gear through the year, come early and buy it back before someone else does. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Royal Far West.

Greg and others will be running MMM at South Steyne starting from this Saturday at 6.30, finishing just in time to join the group for a swim 🙂

From the naughty chair, well done. I’ll probably have my beer goggles on at 9:25 tonight so will miss the ISS.
