We measure the temperature of the air and water we measure our pace . We check the time. I read this week that normally people’s fingertip to fingertip measurement is the same as their height Michael Phelps is a medal winning swimmer and his span is much longer than his considerable height, 2.01 m span and 1.93 m height
So I measured myself My arm span is shorter! Eureka. This clearly why I don’t swim fast. But unfortunately it is true that I could improve if I improve my technique. So I had better work on it.
Warren’s birthday today
sarah-Ann has completed the Tour de France and is now back. With the bike . Well done
I am always looking for information on technique improvement. Andre told me that he visualises the catch part as pushing back a chair and like magic, I found a photo showing this

Winter swimming
The B&B Winter swimming season starts on 1st June. Although the water temperature may be a little colder than you might like, there are several advantages of swimming in winter, including flat seas, good visibility and no bluebottles. Perhaps the biggest advantage is that you can also qualify for a winter badge by swimming a minimum of 20 times between 1st June and 31st August. You must also swim in at least 7 different weeks. If you manage to do all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit (or other thermal enhancing equipment), you will also qualify for the coveted WWW badge (Winter without wetsuit). Start now, and don’t forget to log your swims to qualify.
The Monthly Dinner – 13th August 2019 – Guest Speaker
The Next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 13th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest on the night will be B&B Swimmer, Duncan Young, who is the head of health and wellbeing for Lendlease. The title of Duncan’s talk will be ‘Does the ideas of living to 100 excite you or fill you with dread?’ He will speak about ‘living and working in the age of longevity’, what can we learn from super-agers about elongating our healthy lifespans? Don’t miss this very interesting presentation.
Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential. What I have been reading
I have been reading
The Tyranny of metrics and starting
The Girl who Could Fly by Victoria Forester
In addition I listened to the podcast Bear Brook. Finding 4 bodies in two barrels in this park and the keen work that was done by various people to try to find the victim’s identity led to the use of forensic genealogy which uses posted details of dna of relatives of victims and criminals to work out who they are. fascinating.

This is only a small selection of my photos but I had trouble with the site. Maybe the universe says fewer photos
