Friday 7th: Happy birthday, Rainer!

07/08/201516

Half-moon Booty: Emma is smoking them in the beach sprint …

Yesterday’s 15.1º was a smidge off record of 14.9º.  So, where will it go today?  They stand and wait …

Mr Bond rolls up pants and removes watch …

While Annie and Claire get the machine up to steam …

Thermometer locked and loaded.  John was taking bets on best-guess back at the Club …

Spare a thought for those who REALLY feel the cold.

Chattering Jackson

Jackhammering Jo

Jibbering Jimble

Shivering Selby

Petrified Poppy

He’s in and going the probe …

Not to be.  No “Record Cold” today …

Bluewater heater getting fingered yesterday, as a few old salts were feeling chilled to the bone …

Yet another rubber battle with racing zippers that start at the top.  (Favoured for their rapid unzippability – thereby great for speedy change-overs in triathlons)

Which leads to Friday Triday, and the Warringah Club recipe for this morning is Alex’s Ginger, Pear and Almond Winter Badge celebratory cake

Hardcore swimmers have started talking-up the annual Cottesloe ocean swim

WA’s iconic Rottnest Channel Swim (20 kilometres) is five months off, but you must register in October.  Compete as a solo, duo or team.  Be on your marks – as, registrations are open strictly for one week – from 8.00 am (WST) 12 October.  Kendelle, Mark and Alan are going.  See Alan if you want to find out more … he’s fully into it and has heaps of info

A-Team Series

Jamie Creer has a lifelong association with surf clubs Palm Beach and Freshwater, but his swimming days date back to school years.  He was captain of the swim club at Shore, and part of a record-holding relay team in the GPS swim comps (Athletic Association of Great Public Schools of NSW).

Jamie also competed in Modern Pentathlon, but these years is thriving on Masters comps.  Jamie and wife Alex travel for Masters Carnivals, and last year went to France.  “It’s old man’s stuff,” he says.  “I love it!”

The Three Amigos:  Elliott and Carter finally have Mick zippered to go …

Exclusive – Photo of men’s shower!  This wetsuit was left behind this morning.  I’ve hung it outside on the hooks

After what seems like half a year, the boarded-up rotunda is once again open to both the public; and Manly’s hardy seafront fringe-dwellers …

John Lehmann is at the halfway point on Elfin, his soon-to-be beautiful 1930s yacht.  All the holes for these 2,500 nautical screws had to be drilled with three different bits.  John’s longtime family mate is a skilled maritime woodworker, and the two have been hammer-and-tong on her five and six days a week.  “I’m too tired to swim,” says John.

Do you know about Booty Camp’s tri-weekly blog on Facebook?  This beaut shot comes from Wednesday – Planking Greg (photo by I McK)

It continues to drive all the early-morning dogs nuts:  Midge’s Devon

Thongs are out for winter.  Getting sox n shoes over damp toes is a struggle; but can be expedited by ditching the laces …

As the temp goes down, up goes the number of non-swimmers – arriving for coffee only.  (Ahem.)  Boxing Helen is happy to wait for the warmer weather …

She’s finally backed off.  Doubling-Robyn has thrown in the towel, and is today touching down in Madrid for six weeks around the Mediterranean …

“Hello, thank you to speak me.”

Ian Nicol seeks absolution from the Keeper of the Thermometer.  “Do I have to go in?”

Attracta’s clan playing “What Song is That?”  with their phone Apps in Bluewater yesterday …

Tardis IV yesterday at 8.45 a.m.  What a wonderful bay for swimming, aye!

STATS

Newbies:       Nil

Swimmers:   130 (50 already off and gone by 6.30 a.m.)

Temp:          16.0º

Thanks all for showing up for my birthday swim today. I particularly liked the Port Jackson.
Roger, we were so close to marking 100 days mankini-free blogging. You had to ruin it, didn’t you.

That first pic is symbolic. One stands at a crossroads in life, daring to venture forth toward a dream. There are all sorts of distractions calling you left and right. As you travel forward there will be dangers and periods of drabness. However if you don’t leave the kerb and ‘advance purposefully in the direction of your dreams’ you might end up stuck. Do it without conviction and you might get run over. Follow your preferred path and magnificent things await you !

One of our fellow pink cappers has fallen on hard times. Apparently homeless and sleeping rough without blankets or adequate warmth despire the intense wintry conditions.
There will be collections this weekend to try and help Vagrant Ted
    – just kidding

Happy Birthday evening LIps!! Will celebrate with a bolderdash when sea and air are warmer:)
Talking of which, would you consider changing your birthday – it was meant to be a mid-summer birthday, so maybe same date in Feb would be more suitable now you’re well and truly Down Under….
