Friday 5/2/16 – TGIF

05/02/201620

Thanks God it’s Friday – at least for most of our employed swimmers with daily work duties. In my office, Friday is also mufti day, hence no need to get dressed in suit and tie after the swim when I am driving from Manly to North Sydney

Richard just telling me that he likes my tee-shirt better than my suit

Swimming conditions today: my verdict – pretty ordinary, dark and overcast sky, a bit choppy at the Shelley end, not much visibility, but the water still nice and warm, and no stingers or other nasties.

The 6.30am crew on the way into the water

I spotted some interesting artwork on the back of one of our swimmers

Delighted to see three generations of the Thomson clan – the youngest getting early instructions for a future B&B career

Preparations of the 7.00am group

Ian in an important pre-swim briefing, with the mandatory coffee in one hand

Senior management (John) and senior swimmer (Justus) posing for a photo

Some newbies: Alan introducing Harry

and Richard’s flatmate with his daughter

Our elder statesman (Bruce) did not miss today’s swim

and some VIP swimmers – representing Australia (at the next Olympics?). They don’t need to be introduced, their names prominently displayed

Then finally, into the water – not as many as usual on a Friday

Blog tarting lessons seem to be paying off finally for John Bryan

This man (no need to introduce him) is preparing for his next dentist appointment – “mouth wide open please”

and some blog tarting apprentices, making good progress

That’s it for today’s swim.

Some final comments & observations:

I have been noticing lately a decrease in the number of comments posted to the daily blog (unless it’s Roger’s blog, but he plays in a different league). Have you non-bloggers any idea of how much work it is to compose a blog, and how motivating and rewarding for us bloggers it is therefore to get your feed back and to keep us going? Don’t be shy, comment on whatever you like, whether you enjoy my blog (what I hope) or whether you don’t (what I would take very very personal …)

Secondly some of you have noticed that I haven’t been swimming as much lately as I used to. I am trying to tick one item off my bucket list, what some of our swimmers have already achieved (management John, Lainey, to name a few), namely to run a full 42k marathon. Challenge for me is, it will be my first one ever, only 12 months after surgery of my Achilles tendon, and at the now tender age of 60+. Anyway, this requires a bit of preparation, with a lot of early morning runs and long Sunday runs. I will tell you after I have (hopefully) completed the Canberra Marathon what’s next on my list.

Have a nice day

Bernhard

ahh I remember once when I put a blog out NO ONE commented at all.. I ended up having to comment myself 🙁
But agree with you Bernhard the commenting is very much appreciated..but to be honest I prefer to get comments on the swim itself and what people saw and felt on their swim – i wasn’t fussed about whether they enjoyed my blog…. Unfortunately i suspect the Bold and Beautiful Swimmers Facebook page has well and truly stolen this blogs thunder..

This is my first comment !!!
Great job on the blog !! I read them daily. Usually to reflect on another wonderful swim or to be jealous of a swim I missed.
I do have a question for management though. What will the plan for Sunday and the clash with the Cole Classic?

Thanks for blogging Bernhard. Good luck with your marathon. Canberra was my first marathon too. It’s a lovely time of year for running in Canberra. Enjoy!

You are truly a gem – always the first to comment. This is leading by example. What would B&B do without you ???

thanks Bernhard for making the time for blogging & a great reminder that the blogs do take quite a bit of time and effort and they are all appreciated … as are all the activities that go on behind the scenes by management to make BnB so special …. and happen (with what appears to be) with a minimum of fuss
just for a contrarian view – I never look at the BnB Swimmers page, yet pretty well every day, i look at the blog ….
    keep up the great work

Love your work Bernhard, always enjoy your blog and the dedication of the entire blogging team is truly appreciated!
Also enjoyed the swim today, especially getting drafted by speed queen Inge all the way over to Shelly.

Here you go Bubbles – my review of today’s swim:
I thoroughly enjoyed today’s swim. The bay was full of flavour, intertwining sparkling whitefish overtones with an intoxicating sawdust bouquet. Rounded off with an absurd acetone aroma and easy-to-misconstrue spearmint undertones.

Guilty as charged, I read the Blog daily but seldom comment.
Humble apologies to all, I love the fact there are swimmers in the water every day and that rain, hail or shine the Blog is done.
Drinks tonight at the Life Savers …… 5:30 !

Nice blog Bernhard, nice to see the camera held out. In answer to the question about the Cole Classic, we will make a decision on the day as if the organization of the Classic has been completed prior to our swim then we could be OK as normal. If it’s not complete, the putting out of the buoys for the swim may mean that we will swim north. Either way we will probably set up further north than usual to keep clear of the organizers. See you all then

Bernhard, when people who are not even B&B swimmmers take the time to read your blog you know you must be good…as is the case here. Don’t stop please and thank you! Shelley taught me something today…drafting.I tried it on the other legs namely Greg’s then Howard’s! Greg has more bubbles but very both good.I think I might give it a go in the Cole Classic. Thanks for the tip Shelley!

Love your blog Bernard. A great review of conditions, good photos, variety of swimmers included and happy blog tarting! Thank you for mentioning blog commenting. It is really rewarding getting comments about the blog or swim (as long as positive!) I admit to feeling a bit disappointed if i don’t get comments as it does take a while but then again people do tell me they like reading the blog so after over 3 years blogging I try to be thick skinned!
Someone told me the other day that they read the blog for about 6 months before they plucked up the courage to swim so it can be useful in that way!
As Bill mentioned all welcome at the Surf Club 5.30 – 7.30 tonight for drinks!

Well done, Blogger Berhard! I appreciate every blog, every day. Reminds me to get back in the water every week. Which reminds me – I’m on blogging duty tomorrow (my second time! Be gentle with me, people). Can I grab the camera from either Ian or JK in the morning, please?

I read every blog, usually to see what I missed whilst sitting in traffic:( I hadn’t considered how it must feel for the blogger to receive/ not receive comments so I rarely comment! Thank you all bloggers 🙂 Hurrah for the weekend I’ll be swimming 🙂

Yeh, love all the blogs and usually comment, but sometimes I’m behind with my reading whilst overseas (sometimes no internet or just having a life….but always catch up eventually!!)
I also love all the comments….
For Lesbubbs – another great swim in great conditions i’m sure – always a good one with best company!!
Keep blogging, Bernhard – at least it keeps you popping down and your blogs are always fun with good pics….join me for a slow bolderdash on return!!

Hello Bernhard, I swim about 3 times a month but read blog everyday. I like your blog because you include information on the conditions for the swim. This is what I am most interested in. As a relative beginner to swimming, I like reading about the conditions for the swim.
To all writers – thanks very much – you are greatly appreciated.
