Friday 30 September 2016 the Magnificent 185

30/09/20167

Last night I saw the Magnificent Seven movie – it was great to look at – the Arizona landscapes of rock  formations and open skies (and Chris Pratt). Not much in the way of plot to distract.

This morning I was in my own magnificent event – a BB swim with 185 swimmers and 1 newbie – Mike – who will be back I am sure.

Here is Alan and Emma who is over being chased by papparazzi

Dorset has sewn his badges on – great looking sleeves

Sofia and John – no jimble announcements today

The temp was good today – thanks John. Keep it above 18 please

Here is Mike our newbie today

Mike on his first day with Guy

Mark, not Jackson and swimmer friend

Here is Marije. After one of our firs bolderdahs swims, she made the astute observation after we returned to Shelly of how relaxing it is to swim our usual swim where it seems every rock formation and area is familiar. Worthy of respect but dear and familiar – not like the hairy swells at Queenscliff! I often think of that observation on my way back in to Manly beach

Gillian and Inge found this magnificent swimmer who finds jimbles elegant and may like them. I have a photo of a jimble at my desk at work to try to achieve that but have not succeeded yet.  Something to strive for

Here is Mark. We were discussing how magnificent Mother Nature is – such a big change from calm to churning in a short time over a vast amount of water.

Encounters with the early swimmers

It was very hard work for me to get to Shelly today but it was a really glorious swim. I think I spent a good deal of time near the bower. Also, swallowed a lot of water turning to breathe so I am glad I got any photos at Shelly

You know we are all swimming friends in the Bb squad. I think these two just met.

Then, after lots of practice…

Sofia has excellent judgment on waves and kindly waited to set off so i could get a photo. Lovely photo and lovely background too. What a magnificent morning

The lovely Isabelle stopped to ask me if I was ok. I was doing my usual swim like activity but was getting water in my goggles today so maybe I looked extra weird flailing about. She told me a magnificent story of her dad swimming in the 1920s in Capetown in cold water, covered in whale fat (I have my own fat), near sharks and without goggles, swimming 4 miles! that is pretty good ocean swimming. Also it is just like an ocean swimmer to sidle up to another swimmer and in a low key way check that all is ok. i am always glad for it.

B & B October Monthly Dinner

The next B&B monthly dinner will be on Tuesday 11th October at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker for the night will be Di Westaway, one of our swimmers and head of Wild Women on Top (WWOT). Her talk is titled “NATURAL EXHILARATION design a life you love”. Di believes that Adventure is Fun. It motivates you to get off the couch and into action.  Di will explain how natural exhilaration can transform your life.  Doctors call it Lifestyle Medicine. WWOT call it natural adventure. But it’s not for everybody. It’s only for people who really want to get their sparkle back and flourish in a busy buzzy world.

The cost of the dinner is only $25 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please BOOK HERE NOW.

Temp was 18.4

185 swimmers

1 newbie – hi Mike

I saw one jimble

Double demerit points this weekend

Daylight savings ending

two grand finals

Here’s hoping South Australia gets its power back. It seems a weird juxtaposition that an extreme weather event – which are becoming more frequent and more extreme and may be caused by climate change – should cause the media to be in an uproar about SA using renewable energy. The media is curious thing, I think.

Have a great day.

SPECIAL OPENING WEEKEND OFFER: Many in Manly (incl. many B&Bers) think Hakan makes the best coffee around. This weekend he opens his new premises at Manly Lodge (about 150m down Wentworth St opp the MV primary school). Opening brekky specials – show your pink cap and receive $1 off all coffees this weekend. He says the new menu is great too.
    Another brilliant blog, thanks Elizabeth
