I celebrated a birthday this week along with lots of other BnB swimmers. Getting older is sometimes connected with people feeling nostalgic about the ‘old days’ but I am not. I was thinking about the leaded petrol pollution, people littering before the Don’t Litter campaign and the fact that we used to burn our rubbish in backyards and at schools and hospitals, with no filters etc. In the 1980s I am told that the Cabbage Tree Bay was dirty and filled with crap. Now look at it. Same with the harbour to an extent. Also I did not know I was an ocean swimmer in the old days so I am resolutely looking forward. Today I am looking forward to a swim!! Like all these fabulous swimmers
These guys said the words which put me on notice – there are waves but it is ok if you time it. Uh -oh.

Encounters with early swimmers
Almost got Jim who has gone over to the early side. Thanks Bernhard

Dorset did the Let’s Go
We had a good time exhausting Rainer by pretending his photo bomb had not been captured. He got a good workout today
At the end, I was facing the beach – would I make it or not???? Where was Jason Barbour who usually pops up to give advice? The Cheryl showed up and I made it in
Looking forward to this
What I am reading
This week I have been reading The Missing by Caroline Eriksson. The main character lacks a connection to reality in a substantial way so I find it hard to read at night.
Now I have started the Forces of Nature 2nd novel by Jane Harper (of The Dry – excellent book; even Justus agrees)
Also reading How to Properly Utilize Hip Drive in Freestyle swimming online https://www.active.com/triathlon/articles/how-to-properly-utilize-hip-drive-in-freestyle-swimming?clckmp=activecom_global_recommendedarticles_pos2&page=2 because BB for me is all about technique and continuous improvement.
Also – 10 tips for beginners:Â https://www.active.com/triathlon/articles/10-swimming-tips-for-beginners. The first is learn to keep your goggles over your eyes for at least an hour before removing. Good advice

Monthly Dinner – 10th October 2017 – Guest Speaker
The next B&B monthly dinner will be held on Tuesday 10th October at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be one of our regular swimmers, John Bryan, whose talk is entitled “Life after the Tsunami”
John has travelled widely in Japan and speaks fluent Japanese. He will talk about how the Japanese are re-estabishing coastal communities in North East Japan, and how the Tohoku people are handling life after the tsunami (now 6yrs ago), and protecting and rebuilding their towns.
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Elizabeth, very glad to hear you were blessed by not just the assistance of any random Cheryl, but rather “The Cheryl”.
I was also impressed by the cactus cossies in an otherwise heavily vulcanised blog.
Poor Rainer. That’s like teasing a cat with a laser pointer. It’s guiltily amusing because they’re not smart enough to understand what’s going on, but you can sort of justify it as being beneficial exercise.
Thanks again, Elizabeth. Enjoy your blogging in thoroughly guilt-free capacity.

Great work Elizabeth. I don’t know about playing a trick on Rainer though.
I think that is mean.
I can’t believe you did that to poor Rainer.
People should just stop playing practical jokes.
🙂
It is about time we had a blog tart report.
Snorkels, if you are reading this, can we have an update please?
For the record swimmer count-
22 swimmers at 6am today
80 swimmers at 630
Around 160 at 7

I don’t know how you have time for reading Elizabeth with your busy life as a lawyer, Mum, swimmer , blogger, volunteer etc. I just hope your hubby cooks dinner. Thanks again for a great blog.
You brought back memories of Sharon’s ‘Spreddy’ for who could get on the blog most times and of course the best ever Shauny practical joke of all time, Racing Rainer. You will have to update new swimmers on these B &B memories Shauny!

Maybe it’s more akin to continually throwing a ball for the cute puppy that everyone loves! Everyone has fun.
Unfortunately, it’s a difficult to get one’s head in the blog when you’ve been at home sick all week.
Keep on tarting! 🙂

thanks for the data Shaun. It might have been mean except that Rainer is such an athlete, it was no trouble for him and enjoyable for me.
