It occurs to me what a global life we lead. I encounter at the swim lots of people who are from different parts of the world or who travel to different parts of the world. I have also recently very much enjoyed reading about Brendan Maher’s swim of the English Channel, Julie Isbill’s swim of the Catalina Channel and then the 20 bridges swim of New York (so much cleaner at Manly Julie), Michael Teys swim of the Catalina Channel – with a sore shoulder etc.
The we have visitor swimmers coming to BB.
Unusually I had control of the remote control at home for several hours over last weekend and blew my chance on watching the FINA swim championships (looking for tips but they moved too fast for me to get any) and the Crime channel. Ok I was left home alone. It occurred to me that for almost all of the murder victims there was a studio portrait head shot. I don’t have one of myself and I think the BB swimmers do not need one – if any of us gets murdered and feature on the crime channel, we have the lovely BB blog photos!
Ever wondered how the women swimmers are transformed in the change rooms?
Preparing for the swim
A winter rashie
Sue and SSean (deliberate double ss. in-joke)
How excited was I to see Alex in person with a Louise Jane jacket. I have been reading about his support work for the Brendan Maher swim (as I have read on FB I am ok to engage in the familiarity of first names. I think) of the English Channel. On the Louise Jane boat. Without support crew none of these amazing feats would be possible. I think it is a great thing to do and am inspired by these people. Being a support crew is on my bucket list rather than swimming any channel

I wonder if you can guess why I have photographed these two handsome swimmers? Check the end of the blog for the momentous announcement
Matt from Manly lives in New York and is visiting for a swim. Ian provides a cap together with our disclaimer
The famous Alan with friends
Matt and David showing it is almost time to go in
Such lovely swimmers – the women and the outfits. Why don’t we have colourful swimming booties. The black ones look like business sox
John Dorset and Henrietta
Time to go in
1000 km
Robert Hayter!!!
And who would you like to celebrate such a momentous occasion with? BB Swimmers in an arch of course.
At the point
Encounters with early swimmers.
This is an important chapter in my blogs. I tried to swim with this group once but was still trying to enter the water by the time they had completed their swim. Proper swimmers. It is always good to see them return as you get in the water because they are smiling and say how much they have enjoyed the swim.
This is for Shelly K. A post modern shot of a blogger photographing an early swimmer who is photographing (pretending to) the blogger. High arty-farty aspirations. I am concerned as to how you got stuck in a car yesterday Shelly and hope it was not in the casino carpark! Nick Martin poses for context
Breaking news: Sarah is pregnant. You heard it here first. Baby is due in the normal course of things
I did not make it to Shelly but here are some swimmers who did
This swimmer thought I had seen a cuttle fish but I had just seen a load of excellent swimmers. They’re behind you!
I got Michael on his double
The lovely Sue was completing a double when she swam past me and Ian who was telling me some interesting things about swimming locations in Sydney and famous ocean swimmers. It is a pity in my opinion that so many Olympic pools are being demolished to make way for leisure centres however appealing leisure centres may be.
Statistics
290 swimmers

What I have been reading
This week I have been reading another Peter Corris book with Cliff hardy called January Zone. It is silly and progressing a bit with the Gene book but as it is non fiction it is hard to zip through
At the end of my swim, the lovely sun hit Manly – my destination

Enjoy this image of vegetarian shark the basking shark. it swims around with its mouth open to get enough food. Must get sore jaws. It is huge.

Thanks, Elizabeth. A wonderful brooding photo looking back at Manly. Shall we assume the basking shark pic wasn’t taken just off the point?!

Hi everyone reading this. I lost my favourite goggles today. I’m sure many of you have had a similar thing happen. They are Rival blue lens goggles in case anyone finds them washed up! I’m sure they’ll wash up as I lost them just body-surfing a wave coming in. If you find them please send a message to me.
Here’s hoping!
