Friday 26 August 2016 Manly on my mind

26/08/20169

It is my sister’s birthday today. Happy birthday Helen.

I have not been able to shake my cold/flu/infection and so have been missing lots of swims. Back today though!

Here are Penny and Janelle (biggest mover!!) with a movie star parking spot. in honour of being the biggest mover, Military Road opened up for a quick trip in for Janelle

A rare photo of Andrew and Helen and a lovely swimmer out of the water

Two beauties – Kathy and Emma

Max completed his swim and he is off for a hot shower

Some excellent swimmers getting ready

Some of the same swimmers in a different location – photo

approaching…

Remember to think about Mental Health – these guys are reminding us

arrived to bag drop area

Sam

Encounters with the early swimmers. I can’t say 6.30 because some of them exit at 7 but have been swimming since 6 or earlier

the elbows on these two were magnificent. as good as in the Olympic pool I reckon

At the point

At Shelly beach

As I arrived at Shelly I thought I heard “Turtle” – I did. Rainer spotted Shelly the Turtle and was calling out. I am glad she was there. And all of these swimmers were glad that Rainer was there

Warren participated in a triathlon in Waterford Ireland. He was on holiday and is at such a level of fitness from swimming with BB no doubt that he just joined in and only noted it was a bit colder.

I love Manly beach. Here is a lovely aerial shot by our friend Rodney Campbell of Ulladulla beach. He takes great photos of beach scenes.

These flippers were left in the ladies’ change room and await their owner’s return in the surf club.

What I am reading:

The latest book by Peter Robinson. It is quite readable crime fiction but annoyingly, it is based on recent real life events. I know in a post modern world we are all making references etc but what about imagination etc. I don’t even like it on Law and Order and they have to borrow from real life because they are into season 17 etc.

Staying safe – a timely reminder!
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. A $5 donation will be payable to the RFW at the gate for hosting this event, and …. RFW will provide a FREE breakfast (sausage sandwich and a coffee/tea). Bookings are essential to ensure there is enough food. Book here for Badge Breakfast

All 2016 winter badge qualifiers will be presented with their well earned badge(s), so whether you are getting one personally or you want to enjoy the celebrations of your fellow swimmers, a great morning is guaranteed so come along, soak up the atmosphere and get inspired for your upcoming summer badge challenges…

WWW badge.
Please be aware that to obtain the coveted WWW badge, the only part of the body that is allowed to be covered by wet suit material. Are the feet (booties allowed). Apart from the feet, the body should be covered in non-wet suit material.

Also, a reminder that the philosophy of the B&B group is that we are a group activity and that swims are only to be logged for swims made between the hours of 6am and the final 7am swim (or double or triple or other sanctioned swims). Swims NOT to be logged outside of these times for social and safety reasons. Management.

Great Friday blog Elizabeth, as always!
And yes, Shelly the Turtle was right in the middle of the bay. Everyone’s so busy racing to Selly Beach, no one has time to stop and smell the turtles anymore.
