Friday 25 May 2018 measurement or reckoning

25/05/20184

the water temp today was 18.8 and the air was 17. warmer than the 10 from last week. Science. But somehow it did not feel that warm. once in though it was just lovely. Look At these swimmers who have rugged up so that they do not miss the swim

Here is a swimmer that is half keen to sit on the beach but half keen to get into the water

Early swimmer encounters

Look at those lovely cossies – sunset here sunrise over there

Mark

Just keep seeing John because he is always swimming. lovely new wetsuit

Sad face because like all good BBs, collecting plastic is the thing to do but in a wetsuit, where to put it?

this swimmer showed me a fiddler ray

Monthly Dinner – 12th June 2018 – Guest Speaker

The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 12th June at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest speaker on the night will be TV presenter, journalist and B&B swimmer, Julia Baird, whose recent Biography of Queen Victoria;  “Victoria the Queen: An Intimate Biography of the Woman who Ruled an Empire”, has been critically acclaimed around the world.

Julia’s talk is about ‘ADVENTURES WITH QUEEN VICTORIA: BEHIND THE MYTHS”. In it she will be answering the following three questions:

  1. Why write a book about that old bird? i.e. wasn’t she super grumpy and unamused all the time?
  2. What are some of the juiciest things you discovered about her (and is it true she had a legendary libido?)
  3. What would Queen Victoria think of the Bold and Beautiful?

In other words: Queen Victoria on sex, stereotypes and swimming. DON’T MISS THIS EXCLUSIVE EVENT. Also… Julia will be signing copies of her book if you would like to purchase one on the night or bring along the copy you already have!

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Julia Chalon, one of our swimmers has interviewed Julie Isbill, the B&B founder for a blog.  It’s very interesting and attached here;

What I have been reading
This week I read a new book by Elizabeth George in the Inspector Lynley series: Punishment She Deserves. It was silly. Set in Ludlow UK for no reason other than the author had researched it. It was a nonsense plot trying to include bits of interesting things from that area.
I also listened to a podcast from The Australian newspaper along the lines of Serial Podcast that hit the world or at least my world by storm a few years ago.  There is a 5 part series on the Bowraville murders; on Lost in Larrimah about a man who went missing from a town of 11 people on the Sturt Highway and the current one is about a missing woman from the Northern Beaches called Teachers Pet with characters from Cromer High School. They are free and very good listening as I drive to swimming

Another great blog as always thanks Elizabeth
Can we call the B&B towels what they are SYNTHETIC which will deposit more microplastics in to the ocean and then our food chains – and us!!!. Maybe next time we can not endorse unnecessary plastics etc.
Management can you please keep this in mind for ocean and ocean animal loving swimmers who are trying to cut down on plastics. Some things eg swimming costumes are the exceptions we make but for things like merchandise can we perhaps try for all natural fibres for clothing and non plastic keep cups etc. For those of us who have already seen Blue the movie the plight of the Shearwaters of Lord Howe is compelling so can we please do our bit where we can or at least keep it in mind Thanks
