Friday 24th: On Your Marks … Get Set … RACE REPORTS

24/04/20159

RACING HAIRCUTS

Here is a close cut, suitable for improving your swim time.  It’s a seven-year-old’s first effort … but she still hit me up for 20 dollars.  Enquiries to Ringworm Roger

RACING TOMORROW

Reposting Sterlo’s comprehensive scoreboard for first two legs.  Third and final race is tomorrow Anzac Day – battling for hand-over of much-desired plastic Triple Crown!  Scotty, the Spaniard, James and Tim’s only chance will be if Brad and the Ghost go out and get horribly pissed tonight.

Current leaderboard
1        Brad         10+9 =    19
2        Ghost       9+10 =    19
3        Scotty       7+7 =     14
4        Spaniard 8+5 =     13
5        James      6+6 =     12
6        Tim          3+8 =     11
7        Sterling   4+3 =     7
8        Bones      0+4 =     4
9        Todd        2+1 =      3
10      Cam         0+2 =     2
11       Vinnie     1+0 =     1

JUDGING: It’s a beach landing tomorrow (paying Anzac respect), as opposed to the usual ‘first-to-stand-up in water finish’.  Competitors will self-judge (argue) the result.

RACING DOWNHILL

A reminder that a B&B Japanese skiing trip is still on the cards for January 2016.  Talk to jetsetting Krystyna Weston or cutie John Bryan for details.  Resort is Cortina (near Nagano).  John will be tour leader, and is fluent in Japanese.

SKOLLING RACES

The PM has recently revisited the Australian art of downing beer quickly.  Also, shotgunning involved a pinhole tapped into other end of a beer can.  This week, the SMH reminds us of the launch of Aussie tinned beer 53 years ago.

PACIFIC CHALLENGE RACING

Management reminds us to please use the iLog and record your attendances.  “It’s not just about the badges.  Registering our swims can show our advertisers (who generously support us) that our numbers are swelling, and they are getting value for money.”  If you hear of others not bothering to log swims, please ask them to reconsider …

RACING OVERSEAS

Robyn Humphrey is there now – rowing around Turkey and representing Aussie Surf Lifesaving during Anzac week at Gallipoli.  A great story!  Rob’s crew and support below, at Anzac Cove – having completed the rowing race on Dardanelles.  They will enter Anzac Cove at Dawn tomorrow.  She says it is ‘absolutely awesome’.  Bless them

6.05 a.m: He’s been here every morning for 20 years.  One of the first faces you see every dawn – Joe the paddle-boarder.  Originally from Lebanon, his skin is now permanently sun-bronzed.  (Actually, Joe takes Sundays off.  Phew)

Meanwhile –  over at the Ministry of Silly Walks

McKnight is caught out: not puttin’ in.

NOT DROWNING WAVING: Safety Support
If our regular swimmers could please assist with ensuring that all of the swimmers reach Shelly Beach and back in a safe manner, it would be greatly appreciated

WHOSE TATT IS THAT?

This tattoo was inked-in to commemorate a couple of years’ work in South Africa, leading up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.  The swimmer was part of a crew installing digital communications, and on many weekends a bunch of them would drive up to 2000 kms (!) seeking various adventures.  The map shows every country they reached into …

6.30 swimmer Craig returns with water report: “Not bad.  Not too cold.  And that Monday muck is gone from Shelly.”

“Excuse me, butt may I take a photo of your @rse?”  (Permission granted)

Jo, Ian and Lucy try to act natural …

Love the coven of Johns. No wonder Cagey Jim is trying to surreptitiously listen in.
