Friday 24 June 2016. Week 4 of the winter badge swimming

June 24, 201611

I enjoyed my swim today even though thee was a lot of sea weed and the water was cold and murky. there is a badge at the end of it! also, it is a great thing to do to start the day.

Sarah and Alex agree

these people talk about swimming in seconds

Look at these lovely swimmers – freezing but smiling

David and Rob

Jo whose sone Ewan was run over by a car getting off the bus! he is coming along well after surgery etc thank goodness but how awful

temp dropping

We forced John to pose. i am looking forward to the acheivement of 3000km

good to see Justus and Richard and Marco

These swimmers are used to paparazzi meeting them on arrival.

My encounters with the 630 am swimmers

Helen used to play water polo. it is a great game. I think it was the first team sport to be in the Olympics.

Here is Alistair back from Ironman in Cairns. He reports there were no box jellyfish. The bike section was windy. The training of the silver wet suit group at BB put them in good stead for the event. Just saying

This fitness watch was left behind. Was it because there are only 750 steps on it? If you want it back, Ian has it.

did you know that the blow hold of a whale looks like a nose?

what I am reading: Annie Proulx’s new book Barkskins. So far so good. I think I will be reading that for a long while.

Stats:

no newbies – although there was one fr the cheeky swim. did they mean to come along that day for the first time or were they really surprised

Swimmers – between 100 and 200

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Cake Stall Saturday 25th June

We haven’t had a cake stall or a while. On Sunday Karen Sander and I are skydiving from 15,000 feet with Margaret-Anne Hayes who at 76 will be the oldest lady to have jumped from such a height! We are raising funds for Can Too/Cure Cancer and The Kolling Institute. Please bring some money for a slice or cake and if you could bring something edible to sell it would be much appreciated! Or you can donate by clicking this link https://www.cantoo.org.au/fundraisers/JumpintoJuneJumpintoLife1971

Proof of Karma. Matt kindly donated a prize for the Trivia Night and gave it to me today. Now I have his lost watch. Spooky

I enjoyed the blog Elizabeth! Yes we forced John Bond (Number One swimmer) to pose to show how close he is so close to 3,000km (early next week if all goes to schedule). John was very reluctant…what a modest guy.
Was Murray (photographed) supporting a Brexit this morning? If so, he should be pleased (or is it still too early to call?)!

Elizabeth, I did not really believe it was a whale nose…I had to google it. I thought it was one of Les Bubs props.

Another cracking blog Elizabeth. There’s also a great photo of you taking photos here http://www.smh.com.au/photogallery/national/clique/wintry-cold-snap-hits-sydney-20160624-gpqxh5.html?aggregate&selectedImage=0 and one of John Bond.
Thanks for reminding people about the CAke Stall. Thank you for baking those people that have said they will. If anyone has any cloves could they make some gluwein I think it would go down a treat. So cold today!
