Friday 21st: Purple Haze

21/08/201513

Summer is around the corner

You know those signs?  Overnight dew, before a stinking hot day.  That distinct Aussie smell of burn-offs in the air.  Balmy mornings … the portent of plumb-ripe thunderstorms on the wing … Winter is on the wane.

The hazy horizon blurred into the sea at 6.15 …. I was at the rocky point of Shelly, when the sun breached huge and blazing orange.  Impossibly large.  Looking back to shore, hi-rise windows were shot blood-red.  It felt like Nha Trang … Tuesday was Vietnam Veterans Day   🙂

Summer Life Saving

Surf Life Saving inspectors checked out all Manly SLSC’s gear last Sunday.  They’re visiting each club over next few weekends …

Not Drowning Waving

They also tested the incoming professional lifeguards.  Manly has about 14, and they have to re-apply and re-qualify each season.  I’m sure old salt David passed …

Hi-Ho  Hi-Ho …

David rides his dad’s original bicycle to work.  It’s one colour, from tip to tail.  He reckons it’s about 65 years old.

Justus is still taking it easy before returning to the water.  New mutt Walnut has yet to learn about Midge’s treaty pocket …

Manly SLSC building’s beachfront Point Cafe: and Kane is prepared to serve just about anyone …

A-Frame of Honour

Brad clocked his 1000 Kms last Sunday too … he was keen to get that hat off

Win A Prize!

Manly Aquarium sends a judge onto the beach.  “Most Fish-like” Competition

Blood, Sweat and Tears

I’ve sneakily embedded myself into Booty Camp, in order to get the scoops.  Stole this pic off their resident reporter …

Please Note:

The third leg of Solstice Challenge is now on Sunday 6th September … about two weeks away.  People who complete the Solstice Challenge are eligible for an award.

Triathlete Rochelle is studying to be a nutritionist.  But on Fridays it’s time for cake with the team …

Tim’s barber missed a bit on top …

Craic for Cara
Chiropracting Cara is off to live in Ireland for two years, as her partner Tristan takes up a contract with Galway Connacht Rugby club.  The playing grounds are by Galway Bay, on central west coast, and “it seems like every second shop is a pub,” says Cara.  Sounds like a grand adventure about to unfold!

Justus and Rob … basking in the beautiful early morning light …

The ocean … she’s cracked 18º for us this morning.  Take note of Jimblometer reading …

Friday is Triday for cake …

Triathlete Claire: “I finally got a piece.  I usually have to leave early for work …”

Next B&B monthly dinner

Bluewater Restaurant – Tuesday 8th September at 6.30 pm

Our guest speaker will be Guy Dunstan, who held CEO and senior management positions with major media and investment banking corporations in twenty countries throughout the world.  That was before he experienced a severe episode of mental ill-health (severe melancholic depression + bi-polar disorder) and was forced to leave the workforce.  From that moment, his life spiraled out of control in a seemingly never-ending downward vortex that ultimately resulted in him losing his career, reputation, wealth, marriage, family and friends.  He was left broke, homeless and socially shunned.  Guy will share his experiences, and tell how he managed to turn his life around.

Dinner $25 a head

Includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank-you for the staff.  Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each.

Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:

You’ve done the hard yards and got your Winter Badge (or even harder yards for a WWW).   Now come and collect your badges with all the pomp and ceremony the B&B can muster.  Bring along $10 for each badge you have earned (correct money appreciated).

    – I didn’t shiver so much afterwards

    Nice work Roger.
The thick haze made for an interesting swim. Reminded me of my disco years.
That’s an old photo of Shaun and me. Badge ceremony 2013 I think.
