Friday 18 November 2016 – Wracked by indecision

18/11/20165

I get to the beach and see blue bottles on the sand. Oh no.

The early swimmers who could lie but always faithfully report the conditions say there are none at Queenscliff (but I am at South Steyne). Also going to Shelly, the blue bottles are at the rocks so go wide. As we all know, jimbles stay clear of the rocks.

It is the question on everyone’s lips – where to swim. What nobody was thinking was – Oh I will not swim. maybe because like Mark and Dave they are always swimming

Giving some thought

This swimmer cycled from Queenscliff just in time to consider swimming back there or to Shelly

Reports from Richard and swimmer friend are that there are no blue bottles north

I thought I would swim to Shelly.

If I swam to North Steyne I might see the volleyball courts and then have to decide whether to get out and play or not.

I swam wide as discussed and look what I encountered away from the rocks.

I did not make it to Shelly.

I encountered these swimmers on their way back

And a lovely shark down below

whether they swam north or to Shelly, all swimmers returned with smiles

John or management had to agree – even though it was low tide and a short swim, we can all tick 1.5km on the pacific challenge

these guys were so pleased about that

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Members of his family will join us and it will probably be at Shelly Beach at 7.20 a.m. with a swim/paddle out, casting of ashes and hopefully some music.  Our very own ukelele band may play.  Please bring flower petals and wear a bright cozzie if you have one.  If anyone can help with a way to play ‘Disco Inferno’ by The Tramps at Shelly, please let us know.  (Enquiries to Lainey)  Everyone welcome.

Lovely blog as usual Elizabeth. Thanks for including about Ed’s memorial Swim tomorrow. Sophie Coombes (who is in The Manly daily today btw joy jumping!) is very kindly bringing her PA system down to Shelly with music so Ed will have his Disco Inferno playing.
