“What’s the Point? Where’s the point?”

Merilee gave us each a little present of herbs and spices. This stuff packs a punch – aye, Neptune!

RACING ONE
This foot’s owner did a fully-massive triathlon last weekend. One of those hugest ones … about 220 kms all-up. Finishing off with a full marathon. What a sick b@st@rd. His racing suit is too tight, and the bag helps him slip through. Said he only uses this right-handed bag, but that it works equally well on the left foot. You can get them at Coles …

RACING TWO
South Head Roughwater Swim: this Sunday
Five Bolds are competing in this – Sarah Elbert, Alan Keenleside, Huw Gill, Jackson Meaney and Brendan Maher. It’s a 10 km ocean swim starting from North Bondi Beach. It will head north around Ben Buckler, and up the coastline to South Head. Into Sydney Harbour past Lady Bay, Camp Cove and on to beach finish-line in front of Watsons Bay Hotel.
Obviously, there is no shelter from the prevailing conditions on swim day. Finishing competitors will know they have conquered one of the most testing stretches of water on our Australian east coast. Each swimmer must arrange his or her own individual boat or zodiac for support. The swim briefing will be held at Watsons Bay Hotel – in lounge bar – at 7 pm tonight. Stay off the grog. Below: Alan and Huw counting the kilometres-to-be-swum …

Today Friday: Beautiful morning. Mild air temp, flat seas and nice waves for the surfers. Booties already hard at it, led today by Jenny while Storchy‘s on an Indo beach surfing with Drinks

This other corporate style, blood and guts Boot Camp is using boxing gloves – preparing for eventual turf war over car parking …
—
Conditions: Half a moon, high tide washing up the concrete ramp, good surf, calm seas, Tardis yacht back, some waves turning corner into Shelly … and water still chalky.
Although air temp is reasonably mild this morning, Jim‘s got one toe snuggling under …

And how is Booty Camp surviving – without their chunky leader Barney Rubble?

Beanies are on the beach, because it has been freezing past two mornings. Cath bought this techno unit in Germany many winters ago …
While Inge (below) has more of a Special Forces black top. She wore this wetsuit to breakfast at Freshwater yesterday (believe it or not). Did she leave a puddle? “No.” Why did she wear it there? “Because I was cold.”

Ian attempts a ‘Toyota Jump-for-Joy’ – but his feet don’t leave the ground.

Alan‘s the latest Bold to smash the 1000-K barrier. Congratulations, Al!

Cakes for Nepal
Please support cakes stall tomorrow morning, asks Anna. Bake and Bring …. Buy and Enjoy. All funds go to support earthquake relief, via the Australian Himalayan Foundation. Bolds swimmer Peta Bird did work with this group in Nepal last year – it’s legitimate and we have a connection there with her. Thanks for your support tomorrow 🙂

Enjoyed reading your blog Roger. A solid 9/10. Point deduction due to missing water temp.

I have, somewhat carelessly, lost my handler for the swim on Sunday. The job involves handing drinks and gels to my paddler, Collie Kinsella, every 45 minutes, taking the odd photo if you like and otherwise chatting to skipper young Matt McCann and getting a very different view of South Head. We leave from Little Manly boat ramp at 7.45am. I will be on the benches tomorrow if anyone is keen and wants to chat about having the dubious honour of being in the last team across the line (conditions permitting)!
