Friday 11th: It’s Badging Weekend …

11/09/201515

Winter Badge Raffle tickets are still selling – tomorrow, and of course Sunday – raising funds for our charitable host Royal Far West.  Early dawn Management here, already on the job …

Many thanks Guy for your open-hearted talk three nights ago, which drew a full house … and much seat-trading during past fortnight – for any spare spots.  Keep up your good community works   🙂

Coincidentally, yesterday was National RUOK Day – and these youngsters held a yoga session out front of the Club, then later formed a heart in ocean with surfboard riders.   Captured by a drone above.

3,200 Bucks – Well Done!

It’s great to report that our group’s efforts raised a whopping $3,196 for the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.  Starting with Caroline’s talk at the dinner; the whip around … and then:

•  Two Cake Stalls
•  Caps and Tee Shirt Sales
•  30 of us registering and doing The Walk
•  Donations
Many extremely generous donations. Eg:  Someone’s Mum in law giving $100, another buying the cake they’d baked themselves for $50,  multiple cake purchases and notes generously dropped in the bucket.  Also, Andrew at The Boathouse at Shelly Beach donated $100 to support our Pink Caps team. So drop in for a coffee there and say thanks some time.  Yet another inspiring effort by the wonderful B&B … for a really worthwhile cause close to our hearts.  – Elizabeth Ecks

Yesterday’s yoga crew.  Inspirators Jenny and Storchy have the lurgy.  Nothing stops Jenn; while JS heads seaward to rinse off his tonsils with some salty aqua-blue brine …

Justus is on the mend, and back in for the swims   🙂

Congratulations again, Robbie – for hitting the mark yesterday.  Said Midge: “Gee, you must be tired … after swimming a thousand kays.”

Conditions Report:

Overcast.  Not a breath of wind.  ‘Shepherd’s Warning’ sky.  Aquarium-clarity in first hundred metres.  Mark says bay is a bit jimbley and sea licey.  The Bay a little cloudy.  Water flat as a tack.  Perfect swimming conditions.  Sarah and Drinky say: “Beautiful!”  Water temp?  Warm warm warm.

Budgies of the Day:  Olly

Shocked newbie Erin in her Roxy-as kit … it’s her third swim

Gemma is originally from a seaside Welsh town in Pembrokeshire (where ocean swims would not be much fun), and now lives in Manly …

What was your friend’s name again, Lucy?  It’s her very first swim with us.  Go girls!

Bulldog waits for the return of early “naughty crew” …

This ear-plug is utilised to combat a condition known as “Surfer’s Ear” … where you surf too much with Hulk Hogan and he keeps chewing it off

Daily Rainbow

In 48 hours a new flood of badges will be set free, and we’ll once again learn how many people can’t sew in this day and age – and run yelping to the chinese seamstress  in laundrette down the road …

Thanks Annie and Claire at “our” Point Cafe for these morning fixes.  These young ladies remember everybody’s names – which adds to that feeling of community …

Let’s play “Spot the Spaniard” … (As always: Click to enlarge image…)

A-Team Interviews

James is Tim the Bishop’s brother.  Since moving from Roseville to Queenscliff this year, he’s become a regular down here.  Like Tim, James started comp swimming at high school – Knox Grammar.  He swam qualifiers for the 1996 and 2000 Olympics selections (100 and 200 metres butterfly), but was off the pace.  His best was Olympics 1996 Final 16 for the 200 M Butterfly.  When he’s not kicking butt amongst the A-Team, James also goes to Tim’s church … which is hard to find, cos Tim keeps changing buildings …

From left:  Robert+O, Sarah’s new nose, Adrian “Where’s my cake?”, Johnny the Gardener, L’il Todd, Amber Drinks and another man …
