B&B monthly dinner – 8th June 2021
The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 8th June at 6.30 pmat Bluewater Restaurant. To celebrate World Oceans Day, this month’s speaker is Robert Olive, co-ordinator and a senior turtle carer from the Australian Seabird Rescue (ASR) organisation, whose volunteers have been rescuing seabirds and sea turtles along the NSW coastline for over 25 years. Robert will talk about the amazing work they do and specifically about the rescue, rehabilitation and release of two green sea turtles, Billie and Ella in Cabbage Tree Bay.
There will be the opportunity to sign up to a Volunteers First Responders Training Course to be held on 26 June in Manly to learn about the capture, handling and first aid of seabirds, turtles and other coastal wildlife. Dinner attendees will also have an opportunity to help fund this important work. On the night, Bommie Australia, a Manly conscious clothing & beachwear brand, will donate 50% of all sales of their ocean inspired swim goggle bag range and beach accessories to ASR.
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $30 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each (please note, NO BYO). Bookings are essential, so to avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book at www.boldandbeautifulmanly.com.au/bb-bluewater-monthly-dinner.html<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boldandbeautifulmanly.com.au%2Fbb-bluewater-monthly-dinner.html&data=04%7C01%7C%7Ce223f803c4ed4f27b01e08d92012a886%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637576086828084356%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=7xx4evccY%2B5FIrboHqqgWZzVGwfve6QQhfolD5HgKeg%3D&reserved=0> .
Winter Swimming
While we had hoped that the B&B could resume its normal activities by now, we are still bound by Covid 19 restrictions with which we would be unable to fully comply. So, for the near future, B&B’s operations will continue to be suspended. This does not mean you need to stop swimming. As an encouragement to swim, B&B will offer its usual badges over the winter swimming season. To qualify for a highly prized winter badge, you need to:
• swim from Manly to Shelly and return (or halfway swim) a minimum of 20 times between 1st June and 31st August.
• swim in at least 7 different weeks during the same period.
• log your swims.
If you manage to do all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit (or other thermal enhancing equipment), you will also qualify for the coveted WWW badge (winter without wetsuit).
Since we no longer have restrictions on movement within the community, the Covid swim will no longer be a swim option and all swims must be at Manly. Should there be any restrictions imposed during the Winter period, The Covid Swim will return as an option.
New Swimmer sign-up – also caps/badges
On Saturday 22nd May, your B&B team members will be at the benches (100 m north of the surf club, weather permitting) from 8 am until 9 am with a sign-up sheet for anyone who wants to sign up and start logging their swims. Any new swimmers who have started swimming over the summer period are invited to sign up and get their free B&B latex cap.
We will also have the following items available on the day:
* summer badges for sale at $10 each
* silicone swimming caps ready for winter – $15 each (cash only please bring the correct money)
* latex caps (free) if you have lost/broken yours
Eeish (a deliciously expressive African exclamation) it’s getting chilly with the water at 17.7 C.
The sans wetsuit badge WWW is the most coveted one in our household mainly because one of us can’t do winter without his wetsuit.
I swim winter with my wonderful WOW mates and the BnB crew and for the WWW badge of course. I asked the Wednesday crew what motivated them swim in winter. I may not remember what you all said so bear with me as I use artistic licence.
Coatsey seen ambling up the walkway after his swim which he described as beautiful, said ‘to see you ’ was the reason he swam winter. Good man. Guaranteed spot in my next blog 🙂
Trooper said he swam winter to look at Murray (aka the Kid). The Kid’s expression reciprocates the feeling. Not. Seen here with Duncan and Sue.
Tim and Bruce say swimming winter makes them feel alive and healthy ( not verbatim but similar sentiment)
Some of us going in. Thanks Lainey. We swim winter motivated by our friends, that fabulous camaraderie and encouragement from each other.
Lovely John Dennet said he swam winter to keep sane and sensible. I’ll ask Robyn about the latter. We love John.
Lovely Jim struggled with getting up (who doesn’t) but loves the winter swim. Or at least the invigorating feeling after.
Some of the MOT (men of the tree) get ready to amble in. Michael said he swam winter ‘to see you’. Yesss. Charmer gets a big tick and a coveted slot in my next blog. Seen with legend Duncan, Gunna and Phillipo (Si, he is Italian)
Lovely Michelle swims without a wetsuit in winter and feels invigorated, loves seeing mates plus
the challenge to herself. Go girl.
Kirsty and David swim with each other when they can and for the coffee (I just made this last bit up)
Leisa and Wendy looking gorgeous as they emerge from a swim winter happily invigorated.
The Donald and Justus say they come to swim in the winter to bake in the sun after. They also kindly mind dogs. Lekker (nice) guys.
Michael on the right and friends swim winter for a good reason I quite forgot. They look happy. Lekker to have you back Michael.
Hels our lovely pocket rocket giving it welly. She swims winter for brown fat ‘dissolution’ ( ok it was some big word I also forgot) or in layman’s terms ‘getting me shiver up’ she says.
Welcome to Michelle who swam her first BnB swim coming from Can Too. Seen here with Ian, Jac, Janey and Kirsty.
More lovely Saffers Suzie and Oosty. Suzie said she swam winter for coffee and company and Oosty said ‘Dis lekker by die dam’ ( it’s nice at the dam ). Yeah well he is from landlocked Zimbabwe.

Baie lekker blog, Di. I swim in winter because the cold air is “not inside… it’s on top”! (For non-Saffers this is an old SA joke).

Gorgeous, funny blog Di! After a swim in super cold water, I feel that I can conquer the world…regrettably the warmer I get the more this sense of valour fades, but it’s a great and joyful way to start the day…with a massive blast of endorphins!! And good company adds a sense of warmth and harmony. Thank you one and all and to Sooz for lovely pink flowers on Tuesday.
