Bold & Beautiful Swim September 1st.
The water was a balmy 16.1 degrees. The visibility was murky. The ocean was calm. And the smiles were huge.
Today I completed my first ever Bold and Beautiful swim.
After taking up ocean swimming last year as a way to challenge one of my biggest fears (ahh, swimming in the ocean) – this swim to Shelly and back has been the big goal.
My friend Chelsea and I have been working towards this together, her practicing swimming in Manly, myself in New Zealand.
We started our swim around 8, after a yoga class to soothe the nerves. I’d seen the large group of pink capped swimmers earlier setting out for the 7am swim and making it look natural.
A far cry from swimming in my local harbour there was sea life, rocks, and small waves. All things that would usually scare me but knowing I was following in the strokes of such a big, BOLD group made it seem exciting instead.
After yesterday’s choppy weather the water was still pretty low visibility. For someone who is used to not seeing any sealife on their swims, this was actually a small relief!
We did see a “wobblygongy”, blue groper, a very teeny stingray and a few different schools of fish. I have heard that there is a pufferfish that likes to lurk around halfway but he didn’t make an appearance today.
It was worth coming from NZ for the swim alone, the coffee reward from Little Legends an added bonus.

Where are you swimming in New Zealand? This must be warm in comparison. Glad you got the swim done and blog, congrats and welcome 👍

Great blog. I hear you about getting over certain feelings to swim. I am short sighted so it was good not to wear prescription goggles for the first few years with B.B. but now it is good to see stuff for low visibility you saw a lot!

Hello! The goggles and swim cap are mine! Thanks for picking them up! I will be back on Saturday if someone can hold onto them until then?
