Coming back

October 15, 20165

The jacarandas are blooming, mince pies are in the shops, and the temperature is slowing rising. It must be time for the fair weather swimmers to return to the waves – not that there were many waves today.

I met these two after the swim. They assured me that they do swim, but only in the summer months.

Today there were over 225 swimmers in the (almost) balmy 19.5-degree water. And why wouldn’t you take the plunge this weekend! We now have that blissful time when the jimbles – hopefully – have retreated as the water temp begins to rise.

If not the perfect conditions, then catching up with everyone is another very good reason to turn up.

Elaine is back, and manages to pull a crowd for a group photo. Even Freddie the dog was delighted to join in.

Rosemary and Billy enjoy the perfect conditions.

John is considering going ‘all the way’!

Shaun takes his middle management duties very seriously.

Lyndal and Veena overjoyed to hear the ‘no jimble’ proclamation. Soon it will be time to ditch the wetsuit.

Being such an adventurous squad, someone is always returning from somewhere. Clare has been trekking and abseiling in the US!

Rainer is king of the kids today, so blog tarting is on hold for today.

Looks like there was no waiting at the point today! The enthusiasm of the weekend crowd could not be contained.

The Shelly stop provides the opportunity to catch up and pick up a few tips from the swimmer on top of the ladder!  Mr Bond graciously shares his wisdom and come summer, he leads the 6km and 10km swims.

The water was not super clear today, so apart from a couple of Sting Rays, everything else looked like shadows on the sand. There were reports of sightings of Shelley the turtle and a large Catfish around half way. I have noticed that there seem to be more Pipe (or are they Flute) fish around the point.

A delightful swim back to two proud dads.

Have a spectacular Saturday.

Mary

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Great blog Mary. Water felt so warm today. I’ll be sans-kids tomorrow. How about a double?
    Welcome back Lainey!

can we put Rainer on kiddy duty more often, or would he just train a new batch of blog tarts.

    Great blog….and….
Although we should be in NYC
It was fun to be down by the sea
With the friendly folk of the B&B
But cursing aloud my bung left knee. 😟
It was great watching from the path near Shelly the patch of intense pink off the point and then voices followed by the clarion call from John of “Let’s go!” And the pink thinned out as everyone took off across the bay. Sometimes it good to be an observer… but not for too long.
