20/08/2017 Lost camera in the bay

Yes, that’s right. Today’s blog had the potential to be a gold star, award winning blog. It had everything – beautiful sunrises, fantastic wave action, happy smiling swimmers, perhaps a couple of dolphins, a whale and a photo scoop or two….but I lost my camera, mid swim, complete with most of today’s photos on it!...

Another stunning morning but…..

There were no newbies today. Maybe they were the sensible ones   In case you were wondering, yes the water was cold. Just ask the very bold and very beautiful swimmers who braved the frigid depths with no wetsuit. No stats on this, but around 250 swimmers lined up for their therapeutic dose of vitamin...

Friday 18 August 2017 Stay Woke

Every generation has its own lingo and it is a matter that fascinates me. It means to be “self-aware, questioning the dominant paradigm and striving for something better.” We are all WOKE because we are swimming. And if we were not, on the old paradigm[;] the temp would have us woke by the time...

16/08/2017 – ‘Yay!’

I met the lovely Annie Larkin on her first day swimming with ‘The Bolds’, as she likes to call us, around 4 years ago. She’d come along on her own and was going through some tough times. As we were walking through the shallows after the swim I saw her give out a ‘Yay’...

We are lucky to be able to move easily between the Mountains and the Sea.   Our Yogi’s today enjoying their practice.   Claire, Felicity and Anna from Royal Far West. (This was Claire & Felicity’s...

————– Third and final Solstice: 6.20 a.m. Sunday.  Be there or be a square   ——— Global distance swimmer explains Channel tides and routing             —— Nick Howard’s band appearing Boatshed on Corso, 9 pm Saturday 9th Sep.  I’ll be drunk and heckling...

13/08/2017 – Surf2Shelly

What a Sunday! A total of 290 happy swimmers made it down to Manly this morning, despite an aggressive multi-million-dollar marketing campaign by Fairfax Media to poach swimmers for the City2Surf run.   If you don’t have much time – here’s an Executive Summary: Perfect winter conditions this morning Whales in the bay yesterday Julie...

12/08/2017 – Happily Eva After

Eva Ruzickova is a wonderful member of the B&B swim squad. Sadly Eva is travelling back to the Czech Republic on Tuesday so this will be her last weekend swimming with B&B for a little while.  We’re all trying very hard to convince Eva to return soon. Krásná Eva (beautiful) Manly put on a stunning morning...

Thankfulness

What a morning – another opportunity to be thankful for the good things in our lives…   The Spaniard is thankful that Alice recently said yes to marrying him!   I was preaching last Sunday on the benefits of cultivating thankfulness and came across this from a Harvard Medical School report… “With gratitude, people acknowledge...
