The day started off with another beautiful sunrise, calm seas and clarity acceptable ( not as brilliantly clear as recently but still good enough for spotting the marine life ).
Yogi’s warming up before a swim, if you’re keen they start at 6am on the beach:
Three of the WOW’s headed off early for a boulderdash-Georgina, Monica and Jane.
The regular 6.30 starters went in before the sun came up:
Despite the cold breeze blowing early today, plenty of people showed up for the first time-Sam, James and Dennis:
Anna warmed up with a friend and Panda watched on enviously:
The group gathers to discuss swimming routes, tactics ( depending who you swim with ), temperature and the coffee/breakfast to come after:
I was feeling lazy after night shift so walked to Shelley and watched the group swim over:
Once everyone arrives at Shelley it’s time to be social and have a cuddle:
My camera was playing up today, as were my eyes! But thanks to Dee found a wobbegong down deep on the sea floor-
No sooner had Rainer asked me where the cuttlefish was, I bumped into Sarah who was quietly following the Cuttie -Elaine’s nickname for them – so a group of us got the thrill of seeing him again. Merilee attempted to dive down and get a closer look:
The tiny fish are my favourites, never shy and so pretty:
Don’t forget if you’re new, come join the group at Bluewater for breakfast. They have a swimmers menu and table set aside:
Martin, Penny, Errol and Nicola
Annie, Justus, Ian and Kate ( first swim in 5 yrs-yay! )
Justus and Greg-
Helen, Simon and Ian-
Let’s make the most of wonderful condition and keep swimming :
Have a lovely day everyone, see you Sunday!
Stats for today: 157 swimmers, including 9 newbies :), water temp 19.5
Special Event – Swim with all your Heart
Join the Bold and Beautiful Swim Squad, Manly on Saturday 13th May in support of Heart Research Australia by wearing something red and making a donation before you head off into the water.
Heart Research Australia supports ground-breaking research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease – Australia’s biggest killer. Did you know that four times more women die from heart disease than breast cancer and that every 9 minutes someone has a heart attack in Australia? These are indeed very worrying statistics, which is why Heart Research Australia’s researchers have dedicated their lives to finding new ways to fight this disease.
Because the type of first-stage research they fund does not receive any government funding, they are 100% reliant on the support from the community to help them fund these inspiring researchers. Please show your support towards this life-saving organisation by making a cash donation either before your swim on the 13th May or online at www.heartresearch.com.au/donation using ‘Swim’ as your reference.

Agree, great blog, Ed. I also love the little fish…
Can’t believe it’s 5 years since we saw Kate ‘in the swim’ – lovely to see her again in passing at BW.

Couldn’t believe you weren’t there to enjoy it. We probably ruined it for Sarah, he went deep and fast after we joined her.

Amazing blog Edwina. To create a blog which takes time energy and commitment after working all night looking after and nursing sick patients is a superhuman achievement. I’m glad you had a swim to help clear your thoughts after a long shift. Beautiful photos. Thank you for such dedication
