20/04/2012 – Sun, Sea and S-Miles!

20/04/201214

Over 51 Bold & Beautiful swimmers

The waves were bigger but the sun was out! Roberto and Miles headed off to goodness knows where this morning at 6am – Check out what they swam through! (Courtesy of Gaeten). Video https://vimeo.com/40686538

The rest of us sensible lot headed off to half-way again, but today the sun greeted us as we rounded the point! Photo of Heidi James doing her funny fish impression AGAIN!

A fun filled churning mass of water as we all jumped in, but everyone happy to be there.

We were all enjoying ourselves waiting for everyone to get in safely….

Then John Kelly (last pic below) lead us off with a great Let’s Go!

And off we went, another human/wave/debris dodgem swim!

Below are some photos of our arrival as Shelly:  Super-man-elite-squad swimmers Alex and Miles (clearly Miles survived the 6am swim to join us to Shelly!) , also a war wound I received – and no it wasn’t a stinger of any kind but someone with really long finger nails scratched me and it wasn’t a female! 😉

The journey back to half way was just as bumpy! But lots of helping hands at half way getting us in safely.  Ian Forster directing everyone… or is he telling them off for going too near the rocks?? Happy relief smiles as we all made it back!!

Below 2 of our Super Model swimmers, Heidi and Lesley in their gorgeous Sponge Bob Square towel outfits.  Also pic of John Bond’s elbow… no wait .. who is that tiny figure coming out of the sea instead of half-way??  Miles of course! He braved it back through the waves again – he will be asleep at his desk by lunchtime!

Happy Birthday to Brendan Maher!

Just a reminder that a SPECIAL B&B ANZAC CEREMONY SWIM will occur on Wednesday 25th April at the daily time of 7am.  As always we’ll set off from Manly at 7am, gather at the point together before continuing on to Shelly Beach where Greg McDonagh will play the Last Post on the Trumpet and Bruce Baird will read the Ode.  This is a continuing B&B tradition which is a lovely tribute and a wonderful atmosphere so please come down and join in.

Ok after much email planning here is the Saturday long swim plan:
6am at Surf Club then swim to Freshie or Queensie and back a few times (swell conditions pending)
The Manly Dam swim has been postponed due to concerns about water quality
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENDAN

    Happy birthday Brendan!!
Lesley, again lovely pics and fabulous commentary. I think Julie will have a tough job wrestling this job out of your hands once she’s back, as it’s clear to me you are enjoying it 🙂

Thanks for the birthday wishes. i’m having a few celebratory drinks at 4 Pines tonight at 7pm. Iain has warned me not to have to many prior to the Big Saturday swim tomorrow… talk about pots and kettles!

Thanks for encouragement everyone! I have a new found (greater) respect for Jules writing it / taking photos – it’s a full time job! 😉

Happy Birthday Brendan and also, Happy Birthday to Bob yesterday – somehow he managed to sneak a quiet one….
Fabulous blog Lesley – some non-female nails obviously need a cut and a model elbow, John B!
Miles also told me that when safely out of trouble of the huge waves at North Steyne, he and Roberto actually went looking for some trouble en route to Q to make it more interesting!
Thx to Alex, John K, Ian F for assisting us all at Half Way – Jules will be really proud of the great team effort:-))

    Brendan,
I’m only planning around the “quiet night contradiction” which is the more you say you are going to have a quiet one, the bigger the night gets 🙂
Happy Birthday again and see you at 7

it was definitely very big this morning, good to see everyone opted for half way.
As for myself after meeting Miles & Roberto at 6 (and wishing to see them again :-)), I opted for the rock at the point, best (and safest) view in town 🙂
It will be BIG the whole weekend so remember half way is always safer and also make sure you read Michael’s safety tips:
