30/05/2012 – Winter Rewards

30/05/201211

Over 80 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Including 9 swimmers who also enjoyed a bonus early lap as you can from Gaetan’s lovely early photos in which as has also captured the beautiful colours of the changing dawn sky.

Meanwhile however, some things never change, like our early morning cuddles and smiles 🙂

Rob L was enjoying his crossing training on the soft sand as we all enjoyed that all important one degree rise in water temperature !

The water was super clear this morning and there were so many duskies, one even rolled over to show me his silver tummy – very cute 🙂

Apparently the Cuttlefish and Turtle were out enjoying our company too…  I say apparently as unfortunately I didn’t see either 🙁  These are just some of the many special rewards of winter swimming, there are plenty more… dolphins, whales and what’s more your very own ‘Cold & Beautiful’ B&B winter badge if you swim enough to qualify 😉

Then there’s the happy dash to the hot water bottles…

A tip Maureen learnt a couple of winters ago from some North Steyne surfers.  Fill up a bottle with hot water (from the tap) before you leave home and wrap it up in your towel.  Then after the swim you can rinse off under the cold shower and look forward to tipping the warm water all over yourself followed by the bonus of a nice warm towel – works a treat !

Now not that we are competitive at all… but… it was a very important and momentous swim for Nick Dawkins this morning as he has just overtaken his ‘introducer’ to the B&B, Neil MacKenzie, on the Pacific Challenge !! 🙂

Water Temperature 18.6
Air Temperature 13.0
Sunrise 6.51am
Sunset 4.55pm
Low Tide: 9.14am
High Tide: 3.41pm

That is just fantastic footage! Those Lemon sharks must have a headache from all that bumping at the start…
As for the reef sharks they’re a bit feisty hey, and I thought they were ‘nice’ sharks.

Sorry no photos, we didn’t jump in, although we were tempted with the dolphins as they were close enough.

Seeing that turtle made me so happy….thank you whoever exclaimed so loudly! I have been having as horrible week and today I just kept thinking of the turtle going about waving its sweet little flippers, and that made me smile all day.

Sorry guys, I can’t take credit for the ‘hot water bottles’. I think it was Nicolee.
I love my 2 litre bottle, even had to rescue it from the recycling bin, once.
