14/06/2012 – Spumy

14/06/201210

50 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

This photo pretty much sums up this morning for you…

With monster waves breaking way out past the point.  A few experienced surf swimmers went out from the beach but even some of them very sensibly changed their mind part way and turned back.

Spot the two pairs on feet in the last photo…

Sprout Daily also published a fantastic photo of one of ‘us’ on approach to a massive wall of water… check it out here

A stunning rainbow to send us off on our pleasant stroll around to Half Way beach.

Where we were also joined by beautiful baby Lilou 🙂

It seems it’s not only humans that multiple around here…

There were certainly lots of laughs this morning in between strokes with everyone getting washed around all over the place and Jenny H accurately summing up this morning’s swim with one word – “Spumy” !

Spot Hugh in the wave on the way back in at Half Way Beach…

Thanks Julie for quoting my “spumy”
Here are a few words from Walt Whitman – these words open “A Sea Symphony” by Ralph Vaughan Williams – they were pretty fitting for to-day as well.
    Behold! the sea itself,
And on its limitless, heaving breast…
the bobbing pink caps of the Bold & Beautiful.. yaaay!
Well – sort of anyway. Bruce loved this mighty choral work and had sung in it himself years ago.

Thank you Simon, Jules, Michael etc for discouraging Michelle and I to swim out through the surf today. We are bold but may have ended up Bold and Dead looking at conditions afterwards!
What a beautiful sky and rainbow we saw this morning. There always seems to be some sort of magic around these swims. That photo proves that Manly really is the end of the rainbow too! (Glad I got out of Birmingham!)
I can’t believe I am so excited about getting my Winter badge and Winter without Wetsuit badge. (It really wasn’t that cold this morning anyway.) See some of you tomorrow and hurry up and come back Little Sarah Abbott, John Bond, Nicki Brake, Peta Bird, Madlen etc!!

    😉 we’ll be back for Bruce’s special swim….
Amazing, you were in a wet-suit in April and now in June you’ve shed it! Let’s see how you go in August:-)) Also glad you left B’ham and everyone else ended up in Manly too.
    Swim safe…..
