30/06/2012 – Beaming Sun & Smiles

30/06/201213

120 Bold & Beautiful swimmers !!

Yep, that’s 120 swimmers and it’s mid winter !!! Gosh we’re good 🙂  And really, why wouldn’t you be swimming with us 😉  It’s a magic start to every morning, but even extra good when the sun is just beaming like it was this morning !!

The surf was up and at it too, so the experienced surf swimmers enjoyed the challenge of the waves

while the rest of us took the opportunity to watch Lesley and John participate in this morning’s fashion parade along the catwalk

as we enjoyed the stunning sunrise for that little bit longer ambling together around to Half Way Beach for a more peaceful start to the morning.

It’s great to see our newest Dad, Todd back in the water this morning.  Looking forward to a photo of baby Hudson too.  Our first B&B baby boy for a while 🙂

On the same subject of Fathers and sons we had two sets (that I am aware of) swimming with us this morning, Jack with his Dad John and Joe with his Dad Andy.  Jack (furthest left) is also our youngest swimmer going for his winter badge so far this year, aged 14 !! Well done Jack 🙂

A couple of swimmers still ventured up to Queesie and 6 also enjoyed today’s double trouble.

The highlight of today’s swim was only shared by two swimmers, Brendan and another guy (??) who had the pleasure of swimming over a beautiful big Bull Ray over the rocks just near Shelly 🙂

A few swimmers also saw a couple of the juvenile duskies too which is pretty exciting as they have often disappeared from the bay by this time of year.

Thank you for such a fantastic response to our B&B Relay For Life Team, we currently have 7 people signed up already !!  If you too would like to join our B&B team please click here followed by clicking on ‘join our team’ on the right hand side.

Or alternatively if you can’t participate on the day but you’d like to get involved please feel free to sponsor our team by clicking here followed by clicking on ‘donate’ on the right hand side.

Many of you may be familiar, at least in name, with James Pittar.  James is a blind marathon swimmer from North Balgowlah and is planning a Charity swim for The Fred Hollows Foundation on Sunday, 23 September 2012 at 8am (depending upon tides and currents).

James’ open water swim will take him along our stunning Sydney coastline from Collaroy to Shelly Beach where 19 other swimmers will join him to swim back, finishing together at North Steyne.

James will swim 12kms while the 19 other swimmers will each swim about 2km.  James has chosen 20 swimmers to join him from Shelly because:

  1. 2012 marks 20 years of The Fred Hollows Foundation
  2. The Foundation’s goal is to end avoidable blindness by the year 2020
  3. Raise $20,000 to keep Fred’s dream alive

James would like to invite you to join him to support Fred’s vision and also to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation. If you would like to get involved please register your participation with him by 5pm on Fri 27th July at: James.pittar@ato.gov.au

If all 20 people involved each raise just $1,000 that represents restoring sight to 800 people !

Now for the latest news from ‘on tour’… check out how our B&B rebels are going in Rarotonga… uhmmm…. still not so sure there’s much swimming going on ladies ???

I know James Pittar, I have swum with him in the past. Great guy. I would be happy to swim a lap with him and will support his cause.
Jules, I was waving and waving at you this morning when you were taking pics but strangely you wee distracted by the sunrise. Had a fun swim with Collie and Ben in the starlight: above us Venus, Mars and Mercury were in a line. Was wonderful.

Hey Tim, thanks for showing me your ‘new thing’ yesterday. Have purchased one & am looking forward to stripping down.
Fabulous swim today, so nice to have the halfway option. As usual, fabulous photography.
Loved the memorial video. Well done Jules & co.

Well how could I resist showing you ‘my thing’. Just don’t tell anyone else as they will all want one! Dont worry folks, it’s all above board.

Saw you guys from the air this morning as I was flying up to the gold coast for the marathon tomorrow! Had a good view of the bay as you guys were making your way back from Shelly and could just make out the pink over the water… Very cool sight! If only I had a camera handy…
