11/03/2014 – Just another perfect day

11/03/20147

Today, 140 swimmers – that we know about – ticked, clicked and signed up for another stunning swim to Shelly and back. It is remarkable that even on a Tuesday well past the summer madness and all those new year resolutions have been forgotten, there were 6 new swimmers signing up today.

Even more remarkable is that, there was a group out there doing a 5.30am TRIPLE!!

John proclaims that the temperature is a balmy 22.9 degrees, making it perfect for non-wetsuit swimmers.

Slowly, the 7am regulars make their way to the sea.  There were just small waves today so no testing of our ‘staying safe’ knowledge!  Have you read about reading the surf?  The link is at the end of the blog.

As we head out to the point the rising sun finally emerges from the low cloud, bathing us in golden light.

While it was a beautiful autumn morning, it was also the day that my camera lens decided to go all foggy.

Sandy McIndoe is today’s birthday swimmer!

The double wammy of foggy lens and opaque water did not bode well for too many great fishy shots!  A number of fiddler rays were spotted in the deep water off Shelly – maybe tomorrow. . .  However, you can always rely on the Old Wives, the Yellow Tail, those striped grey fish, the Groper and the Catfish!

As we breakfast around the benches, Jeff and Eric try Annie’s new skateboard – although some need a little assistance.

Have a great day.  And don’t forget the dinner tonight!!

To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Help! My i-login was ignored today! No wonder Richard is overtaking me in the PC (though the fact he does doubles might be something to o with it)……..

A beautiful old wife – not blurry at all!
Absolutely amazing setting off in the twinkling phosphorescent water with the twinkling stars above (just before 6 a.m)… Thought I was following Storch’s shadow out to the Point only to find it was a large rock I was talking to:-)
Amazing to find at least half a dozen swimmers already out there enjoying the perfect conditions! Forget about shark fears, it’s bumping into other B&Bers in the dark that scares me!

Lovely blog! The fogginess of the lens adds to the atmosphere – just need mood music to complete it! I think of all you lucky B&B-ers while I do my online study about teaching and analysing English grammar. Riveting stuff.
