16/03/14 Wave!

16/03/201414

So, I don’t get to swim all that often during the week and love reading about glorious warm water and seeing photos of lovely calm water and I turn up today to bumpy and fun!

What a busy morning down at the beach. The Smile for Drake crew were out.

According to Father Gerhart it’s the last Sunday for nippers for a while.

‘Many hands make lite work’ why struggle with your own wetsuit, when others can help zip you into it.

JK explained that the surf was BIG today, so there is always the half way option.

Which meant, the group divided. Some down the ramp.

And some walking along to Half Way.

So Gareth led the Half Way group, into the waves.

One by one, swimmers filed down the silver steps.

You either got lucky and missed a splash.

Or the set engulfed you.

Filing one by one.

Into the waves we go, sharp right and head for Shelly beach.

I’m not sure if Lips is supporting Jeff, or Jeff has kindly accompanied Lips to,Shelly. Thanks Jeff, for looking after Lips.

It took a while for us all to join up at Shelly.

Buoyancy aid alert!

As the waves were strong, most of us chose to beach ourselves on the beach today. Get it? 😉

A guy from Smile for Drake, asked us to join in the celebration of life past at 8:30, and we celebrated a wedding anniversary, a departure to new countries and a birthday!

Happy Birthday Lyndal

What about the fishes? Hmm, here’s my one pic….not much Visibilty today!

Lips patiently helped others by holding into the very same steps he struggled with on that fatal day last year.

“Rainer, keep an eye on the evil steps!”

Some of us took an opportunity to enjoy a quick surf too.

Bit of a bumpy swim today. I was joined by my partner today(he doesn’t swim as I often as I do) and was a little hesitant about the messy swell but gave it a shot (figuring we would stay together). We got separated amongst the waves and I ended up in a big set, drifting towards the surfers and a little scared.
Thanks to the lovely girl who looked behind her between the waves to see me looking worried. Thank you again for asking if I was Ok and swimming to me when I said I wasn’t. Your presence gave me the confidence that I could get out and I really appreciate you staying with me till the point (as It turns out I was almost there) when I spotted my partner Trent wondering where I was.
It is people like you that make the B&B special, whilst we are responsible for not scaring our self silly, it is nice to know that when I did get worried questioning if I could get out someone looked around to see me.
It is our awareness of others around us that makes B & B unique. You didn’t have to ask if I was Ok but I am really glad you did.
Ive done plenty of ocean swim races in far worst conditions than today but today I was doubting my ability and It was so lovely to see someone with a smile on their face. Thank you again.

How georgeous does Leisa appear in her surfers image. Such a beautiful lady on the inside and out!
And Nikkis story shows the ‘oneness’ of the pink caps so well.
Shazza that fish looks thirsty, back in with it!

You were on fire this morning Lesbubbles. I saw you rescuing at least five swimmers today, two of them children. Later I saw you helping an elderly Lady across the road on your way to Manly Wine. Amazing how you still find time for all these things whilst developing a cure for cancer.
And you didn’t even tick your swim! What noble gesture.
You truly are the Good Samaritan of ocean swimming.
