Monday 5 Jan 2015 – Sabine’s leaving soon bye bye

05/01/201511

Today’s blog and goodbye song is dedicated to Sabine who will be leaving us next week to return to Germany.

(The Beatles – She’s Leaving Home)

Sabine mostly swims at 6am so she can catch the 7.30 ferry to her architecture office in the Australia Square Tower. While swimming is her main passion, Sabine she has just  finished designing the re-fit of the Moneybox in Martin Place. After 3yrs+in Manly Sabine is homesick for her family and great working conditions in Germany (more holidays than Oz).

Here is some of this morning’s 6am crew

Jackson, Clair, Ali, Sabine and me (thanks James)

Sabine is very modest about her swimming achievements, and there are many…..

just a few examples include – 1st @Curl Curl

Rottest 20km and Bondi to Watson’s Bay (10km) with Clair

She trained with Channel Swimmers and Frostynuts

Billy (far right) this picture of you was specifically requested by Sabine

6.01 Ali, Reg & Sylvia

Only one underwater shot today, mermaids Clair & Sabine

6am crew @ Shelly

Jill welcoming even more newbies @ 6.30 (thanks Jill we really appreciate your dedication)

Cousins Charlie, Zack, Caitlin and ?Aunty Jenny

The surf skiers were out in force ahead of the 7am B&B rush

Storchy had the Booty Campers on their knees

Sabine having her 1st pre- 7am coffee with Pirate Alex and Cpt James Goins

(they saw a biggish shark near the point around 6.35am)

Lee (head of Nth Steyne Surf Club) asked the pirate, “how big was the shark?”

Peter, Meg, Bruce and Rob

Kirsty, Mitch and Di

Johny Louise Di & Holly

Triathlete Christmas Carol

Triathlete Steve said all his buddies wear an ID bracelet (food for thought)

John has swum from Gibraltar to Morocco

7am at the point

Fishing @Shelly ahead of the crowd

When the racers reached the point this morning Brad was well ahead of Irish Alex and Scotty

But this manoeuver by Brad lost him the race

Alex 1st Brad 2nd Scotty 3rd

Clair congratulating Fiona who ‘podiumed with gold’ at Newport yesterday

Happy Birthday Chris

that is a magnificent blog. I am so impressed with Sabine and all the great swimmers in the group. The photos today are just superb especially the under water one. I would have to miss a swim to see the A team race finish if not for the blog so thank you.

Fantastic blog Simon. Good to see the standard lifting.
Snorks, you were right with what you said when we charted on Sunday. 🙂
Great to see this blog also qualifies as a Burqa blog.
(Burqa blog = can’t see the Lips)
So sorry to see Sabi going.
Manly will be a bit darker without her.
(And the swim a bit slower)
