13/1/15 – The Unexpected

13/01/20158

After seeing the BOM prediction this morning for HEAVY RAIN, we were not super keen but once again the Manly microclimate kicked in and we ended up with great conditions and Sunshine for breakfast.

Promising glimpses of first light and no rain.

The weather report is probably responsible for the quiet beach.

Good to see the serious regulars were not phased.

We have been noticing Shoefiti on the rise in our Pines. Surely there is a better solution for old shoes.

Roberto Suares is a machine having swum the Bolder the last 14 of 16 days.

Not enough said of our Manly SES with Mark always keeping a watch out for the locals. He might even start monitoring from the water soon.

Terry (the Hardman) McJannet with his personal Swim Coach Julie prepping for a PB this morning.

The 6:30 squad tag team with reports of great conditions and 21.7 degress water temp. A far cry from the 14 of last winter.

The long walk not so long with a low tide walk to the point.

The Hard Man showing the finer points of a tail fin first water entry. Not easy to do.

A perfectly positioned Halo on Ruby.

Though the point had a fair bit of sand swirling around, there were glimpses of blue.

John was explaining where we wait at the point.

Oh well we will try again tomorrow.

Quite spread out this morning with some closer to Shelly.

And were off with the visibility clear and blue.

Some of you may know that our resident Sea Turtle(who we decided to call Crush after the Nemo flick) was seen yesterday at the boulders on the bower point. No news since sent us on a search this morning with no joy.

Our mate Crush.

Quite a few made it to the Shelly huddle.

Fiona 40 weeks and counting. But most impressively still swimming.

Under grey skies we head for home.

Clear visibility at the lollypop at half way.

Lots of small fish everywhere.

And where there are little fish….

And some small waves for a ride in.

And sunshine for breakfast. You cant beat the Manly micro climate.

And to top it off some amazing Breakfast service at Bluewater.

This morning we had 5 amazing newcommers who took the chance and hit the conditions jackpot. With 21.7 degrees and 77 registered in the water it was hard to beat.

Thanks to all those who were able to join in this morning and wishing you all well for the rest of your day.

Cheers

Brian

I haven’t done a bolderdash for a couple of years so I tried it this morning with Lips and Jo and it was very excellent!!… If you don’t mind massive waves at Queenscliff and being taken so far out to sea you swam alongside the shark net with all the bait fish! thanks a lot Lips!! ;p
It was good to get out of my manly-shelly comfort zone. And a B by my name on the attendance! 😉

Thanks for a great blog Brian. I know you ended up having meetings all morning so couldn’t get it out before 1pm email time. Where was the first picture of the turtle from? How exciting, I haven’t seen it yet. Thanks to all the B&b ers who did the Can Too swim on Sunday.

What a lovely blog post, thoughtful words and beautiful images. Great job, loved the fish shots and the misty horizon.

Well done “I’d-rather-die-than-wear-a-wetsuit” Bubbles. Didn’t think you’d show up. Shame you had to drop out after 3k due to wrinkly fingers.
Great blog Brian. Thanks for making the time!
