3/5/2015 A wet-dry swim

03/05/20159

Good mornin’ all. MEFF here again, except M and Fi1 are recovering from triathlon training so it’s Em and Fi2. For those faithful sunday swimmers who got out of bed (big tick) and turned up (bigger tick), you are forgiven for not getting in the surf, but you probably got wet anyway from the rain…(any tick at all?? See ethical problem below!!).

The surf was well and truly up. Too many surf boards around. But tell me, oh experienced bloggers, why is it SO HARD to take decent photos of the big surf?? I have made an attempt below but it looks tame. Humm… here are the pix which tell the story.

SHB looking dark and wet this morning as I drive north wondering why I’ve got out of bed today…

As I drive down Sydney Road coming into Manly, I am SURE I can see the surf in the horizon…

On arrival, the beach is pretty empty…(Ah yes, this is why we get out of bed – isn’t Manly fabulous)

Just a few surfers…

People slowly arrive, but the tree is lonely (missing Ian)

Keen beans getting in early

No movement (6.59am). Procrastination and analysis all round.

Movement at last! The division between swimmers and walkers was quite pronounced this morning.

Here are some surf shots

Getting into the water at Fairy Bower was challenging…

Some walkers looking very happy with their decision to walk back!

I couldn’t see too many people swimming back – just hope everyone is safe and warm again by now.

here’s hoping to see this next weekend as we rock up!

Signing off….Em and Fi2

ps: Ethical dilemma…. to tick or not to tick, that is the question…..we came, we saw, we conquered (well, got wet from the rain….) but we didn’t plunge….do we tick ??

Oops. Forgot the stats. Air temperature 17, water 20.3. Couldn’t see any newbies and the website tells me there were 36 swimmers…(but maybe more ticks to come!!)

Well blogged. Impressive pics of FB at its most daunting, and loved the procrastination and analysis…all an important part of the process.

Alan, congrats to the 1k mark. Why didn’t you do a double today, would have been the chance of your life to finally overtake Elizabeth 🙂
    See you soon

Good photos of half way. The storm water channel near Bower Lane was so full that the concrete slabs had lifted off. I think your photos show how powerful it was but it DOES look flatter in photos than it is.

Thanks for the blog Emma travelling from the other side of the harbour to Manly.
Congratulations Alan on reaching 1000km this morning. A great effort considering the rough seas and water quality.

    Nice work Em & Fi2.
Agree on the surf photo paradox. Waves that looked ginormous during the swim tend to turn out all cute and cuddly in the photos.
Re ethical dilemma: tick away! Little Sarah will send a consolidated invoice at the end of financial year.

    Right, just enjoy and remember:
    Deductible expenses:
    – broken umbrellas
    – lost fins and goggles
    – medical injury repairs
    – new pink cap
    – wetsuit repairs, but only if they took a few plunges
p.s. I think your surf pics are fabulous!
