A Stunning morning as the 6.30am crew head out. The air temp was a chilly 8 degrees, but the water a warm 19.4 degrees. Clear visibility and lots of our fishy buddies were out to greet us.
Have you ever reflected on your thoughts as you swim back from Shelly Beach?
I asked a few people to ponder this question on their swim and let me know..

Terry – was thinking about how great it was that he swam a little further today….
Brian – was reflecting about his daughters pending trip overseas with her boyfriend, scary, no idea?
Martin – thought this was a bit to private to answer, and then, shared how warm his wetsuit was.
Gayle – was thinking about what’s coming up at work today, meetings. And how good it was to see Terry swimming.
Ian – was thinking about how cold that shower is at the Surf Club.

Steve – was wondering where Patrick was, I’ve got to beat him!
Maree – was focused on her stroke and how great she felt, being in the water.
Dianna – was thinking about how good it is, how lucky we are, as well as what’s coming up for work today.
My thoughts were initially on a few issues in my life and they slowly faded away into… how each breath of air was feeding my lungs and putting energy into my next stroke and how warm and lovely the water felt. I was distracted (in a good way) a few times with fishes. I always feel stronger on the way back from Shelly, don’t know why? Maybe the body is warmed up or maybe its the thought of break?
What ever thoughts you have I’m sure that any issues are unravelled and replaced with some positive ones on the way back.
Have a great day, Jenny :))

On the way over to Shelly i’m thinking “how hard the swim is and that ‘a**hole’ better not swim into to me and who’s that in my way!!” type thoughts…
On the way back the grumpiness is there till about half way when I just LET it all go just sail along – swear to god, everytime, 1,500 km’s of swims later. I find if I hang onto that grumpiness then without exception I get either stung by a jimble / kicked in the head by a swimmer.. or Lips beats me!

Haha – I was thinking that the Spaniard must be on my feet and about to pass me so I better keep going as fast as I can… It’s called a panic swim!

I think about how much bl**dy longer is it … until I can get out?
Wanna get dressed.
Get coffee.
Sit and sip; stare at the ocean – with an empty mind
……………….
Great theme, Jenny!

Great theme! Here are a few things that cross my mind:
– Who’s blogging today?
– How long since the sewage plant overflow?
– Did Shaun swim? If not, did he tick?
– Was that a jimble?
– Did Ted just pass me??
– Could I stop here and pretend to look at fish?
– Where is that reverse rip???

I’d never dare to beat you. I’d be too scared of the repercussions.

I’m thinking everyone is probably feeling the same as I do and guess what! They do! Hell it’s great isn’t it? 🙂

You forgot one question Lips:
-“Can I take this chance to annoy Jane by grabbing her fin and making her even later back to the beach?”

Great blog! On the way back, all of the stress seems to go, the strokes bring calm, I am in the thick of nature and the beautiful ocean and I just think ‘aaaahhhhh’. Reset and ready to go

10 -12 times, if there is a swell and nasty chop i generally think about staying alive and try to focus on breathing calmly which I appreciate is necessary to avoid panic.
7 to 8 times on way back I question the logic in going so wide (avoiding the crunch of others plus making 100% sure no waves could push me onto distant rocks) as it makes me number 1 easy choice for stray shark wanting a nibble.
5 or 6 times I think “surely I should be near the point soon”
4 or 5 times I consider doing walk of shame from Shelly (I have only done it once on my 2nd ever swim when I seriously almost drowned – here is a tip, if you ask a bloke that looks like they are seriously in trouble if they are OK, they will say “I’m fine thanks” ….. no, this means they are about to drown.
Every 2nd swim when there are waves I wonder why after I turn for beach after point i seem to be actually going backwards?
Number 1 – Why after doing my 1st solo ocean swim a few weeks back (shit that was scarey) some attractive girl approached me as I walked up to surf club and gave me a big hug and said “cool man, you did it” (just quietly I’m not complaining – just confused).

I look out for the fish so I am thinking about them and which ones I might see and wonder if I will see a shark
I always think it feels easier on the way back and my strokes are more leisurely but it always seems a much shorter journey
I wonder why it is I always feel like a solo voyager on the way back but there are always a pack of people arriving at the point when I do
Great blog theme – thanks Jenny !
