With the report of 1 meter of deep south swell meandering its way up the coast from a snowbound Tassie, what wasn’t to look forward to. To our fellow B&B’s Ian Johnston and Catherine Hawkins who brave the swim in Hobart most mornings, the least we could do is step out in balmy Manly.
With next to no wind, a really low tide at 5am and spitting rain we were pumped for a special morning after seeing Tabbi from Hobart on the news brave the morning waves.
The glimmer of gold on the horizon was short lived.
Though we didn’t know it at the time, I did catch the swimmer of the day ambling down to the start.
It was a very quiet start at the beach.
Even the 6.30 throng was quite subdued.
6 degrees and quiet start for an enthusiastic 7am kickoff.
With Terry back in the water, the dream team is back in business.
Though it seemed a little sparse from the get-go, there was a throng already in the water.
Some could see no reason for the additional cladding.
Clearly they are cut from a special cloth.
There is always 1.
Bluey and his mates were quite content in the colder climes.
Above the water a little inky but calm and smooth.
Down a little deeper it was a little more tropical.
The gardens were in good shape.
Meanwhile back at halfway spirits were buoyant.
Everyone keen for the return.
Some were very keen and hit the track with all they had.
Leaving the rest of us in the bubbles.
A couple of lazy Port Jacksons had stopped for a siesta as Elaine dropped by.
Looks like they hit the wall, big night out.
Shaving the point today came with risk of damage to the undercarriage.
But then plain sailing.
I am reliably told that we did have a very brave newbie today and about 60 in the water.
Another gem of a start to the day, and all the better for the great people who are part of it.
Wishing you all a great week.
Brian

Well said, Brian: “Shaving the Point”
… Ken was ecstatic to witness the barn-storming Bishop go belly-up on the barnicles, just as his win was in sight. A-Team were still arguing the result 15 minutes later.
And don’t we all POQ when the sun doesn’t turn up 🙂

Nice blog Brian! Great to see Terry and Ed back in the water. Well done on getting so deep to get the PJS close up (or maybe they are Hornbill sharks?)

No, they are PJs all right, not Hornsharks. Nice to see them together – wonder if we’ll see them mating?

Hey Elaine,
Whatever they were they were clearly napping after a big night.
