Turning Left Too Early…

22/10/201514

What a swim! Such a good morning to be down with friends at the Bold and Beautiful… 80+ of us in 19.9 degree water! And not a jimble in sight…

That photo doesn’t show it, but on the point were some really good set waves. Both on the way out and in, the waves were rolling in…

Here is our resident Master of the Rocks… Scrappy Scotty.

And the old sea dogs were howling at the sight of some swell…

Well, to the swim… and what a swim it was. Good waves on the point and then a relatively calm bay. The A-team were at it again on the race back home. James has taken to doing the first 50m butterfly and somehow taking a good lead all the way across the bay… it was then Scrappy Scotty and me chasing… until it all went wrong for the chip leader. James seeing the waves turned left too early and oh my… I have never seen anything quite like it… he rode a wave right onto the rocks and ended up in the corner with waves crashing on his head. Even Scotty and I who would normally take advantage of this stopped to see if he was alright. Good news was it was just some skin he lost… Here is a picture of some of the aftermath…

And to the biggest loser… after feeling that winter had been a little too good to us, a bunch of us are doing a weekly weigh in at the swim. The main challenge is between Sterling and I. The loser has to buy the other coffees for the rest of the week and eat a custard tart on weigh in morning. I lost 2.6kgs in a week… Sterling 0.4kgs….

Meanwhile Storchy and I looking fit as a fiddle… I’ve highlighted some areas that are off limits to anyone but my gorgeous wife!

Finally a big thank you to the swimmers who came along to our African Enterprise fundraising dinner on Tuesday night. Derek commented that it was one of the most inspiring evenings he has been to. I think we were all particularly touched by Rosemary Mbogo sharing how she had grown up in a violent family in the slums of Kenya with 7 family members in a 7×9 foot room for a house. By God’s grace her life has been transformed, she has gone on to earn a Phd from a top American university and she now encourages people all around the world. What a life!

Gripping read Bishop. A real page-turner.
That moment when James turned left too early, I was at the edge of my office chair!
And when Sterling had to eat that custard tart – wow. You can’t make that stuff up.

Timmy, you look like your holding your tummy in in that image of us both!
    Vanity. Isn’t that a sin?

If Hollywood makes a movie based on today’s blog, and I’m sure they will, who will play Sterling?

On first sighting I thought those multi-coloured neon psychadelic-ish budgies were an eyeful but then I realised they hopefully indicate that the threadbare see-through ex pink ones have been retired and I thought “Alleluia” which is quite applicable to the Thursday blog.
