04/01/2016 – Bumpy but Beautiful

04/01/201616

These are the 6am swimmers heading in under cloudy skies this morning. The morning light was beautiful and the rain kept away until after all the swims! Numbers were down on the craziness of the last 2 weeks with around 150 swimmers and 9 Newbies. (That’s totally a guess!)

The pic above shows conditions this morning. A little bumpy with a few waves going out. Not too rough though and a warm 21.5 degrees.

Jim brings his son along for a 6.30am swim today.

Sarah is almost up to 500 kms. I’m not sure if she did a double or not but we’ll get ready with an arch and fuss tomorrow!

Booty Camp with Jen and Charlotte leading…

Sterls, Guy and Bruce sporting their new Christmas presents!

Lisa and Monica hit by a wave!

Belinda before the wave

…and after! It’s amazing how many documents need witnessing by JPs nowadays. Belinda Wightley is a lawyer, (a good one at that so I’m told), and is happy to offer a free JP service to B&B swimmers after the swim. Just call her on 0434995972 to make arrangements!

Hope you can spot yourself in the Shelly shots.

Lovely Sophie, remember if you need a Marriage Celebrant she’s your girl!

Shaun is doing a great job in the absence of Ian and JK. He warns us about the rip and the need to swim in wide away from the rocks. It’s also Craig’s birthday.

I loved Mark Mallinson’s post on Facebook at the weekend. I’ve included it below. We are so lucky to see Manly Beach at it’s best before all the crowds!

And some fishy shots from a couple of days ago.

See which of our swimmers you can recognise below. Quite a few of us had a brilliant night NYE at the Skiff Club. Remember it for next year!

Summer Badges

More badges just for the Summer months:

You all know about the 6 km summer badge swims. These are on every Saturday during summer. (Not usually in January because of Carnivals but extending until March)

There is one 10 km swim each month over Summer 2015/16. Watch the blog for details of the next 10 km swim.

The new badge, the Shelly Triple, involves a triple lap of Cabbage Tree Bay (ie swim between Shelly Beach and the point three times – total 3.5 km). This swim can be completed any day and should be logged on the i-log system. Since this is designed for those who are unable (or unwilling) to do the longer swims, this badge is only available to those who haven’t completed a 6 km or 10 km swim during the season and really want the pretty pink badge.

2016 Calendars are HERE!!

The 2016 B&B calendars are now on sale. Get your copy from Ian or management standin, any day at the swim, or order online HERE. This year the calendars are even more impressive in a larger A3 format, all for the same cost as last year – just $15 each.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!

While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Whoops….who does lost and found? Ran from tree to cover when it started raining his morning and got home to find hat goggles and swimmers not in bag. Obviously everything left beside the tree

It certainly was bumpy but such a perfect way to start my day. I just love the lottery of not knowing who you are going to pop up next to at the point. This morning it was John Bond who is always so interested in how we are going. And so encouraging. Great blog Lainey! Beautiful, fun, happy photos

We don’t have anyone specifically Woody although if you want to volunteer for the role it would be greatly appreciated 😉 If anyone is around Surf Club and can look for Woody that would be great. Ian does have a collection of lost property goggles people have handed in but can’t keep all the other stuff left.

Looking at the map attached to the Pacific Challenge, I see that Midge has, quite appropriately, made it to Midge Point.
Meanwhile, Ian seems to have stopped at Hamilton Island. is that where he has gone for his holidays?

Great photos Lainey including the blue groper and those of NYE
    at the club.
Woody,I found some goggles and black swimmers near the tree, could not find an owner. I left them on a hook on the wall. Will see if still there tomorrow.
A clarifying note re the Summer Swims :
The 6K are on most Saturdays in summer including January. We swam last Saturday. However Manly LSC has their major carnival on Jan 23,24 extending from Sth to Nth Steyne.
It is the 10k swims that are run in December,February and early March. One swim in each of these months. Still waitng for carnival info to clarify date for February.

Ian’s actually at Old Bar but would be funny if he was. Now you’ve made me want to see if Ed is up to Maloolabar and others on holidays at their PC place!

Great blog Lainey. 4th photo my favorite.
Lucky you have your own camera. I was supposed to bring the communal camera back down this morning (the one that takes the pink pictures), but didn’t make it in the end.
I will bring it back tomorrow before 7am for whoever is blogging!
