I forgot to set my alarm so didn’t arrive until 6.27am just in time to hear Drinky making a speech to his very large (50+) Drinks Express A-Team.
The essence of his speech was on the white board.
“N.B. This SATURDAY & MONDAY the swim STARTS from SHELLY + this Saturday’s 6KM swim is CANCELLED.”
STATS: 180+ swimmers, 14 Newbies, 23.4 degrees.
Family A – Team
Georgia, Abby, Phillipa & Ethan
Regular A – Team
Jill & Rusty
Capless Dave’s A – Team
Some of the Drinky 6.30 crowd.
Jane brought her Newbie friend Amanda to collect her pink cap.
Amanda is a local (Addison Rd resident) who has known about B&B for many years. Finally, today, her UK friend Jane convinced her to join in the fun.
Arm chair – A – Team
Another Family A – Team
Mum Linda swam with Sol while big bro Kai kept Ayla company.
Mum & Daughter A – Team
Alexandra swam while Jill walked.
This lady with the pink cap owns The A – Team rig.
Management A – Teamer John Kelly trying in vain to say “wait at the point”.
I.E. I had to swim 400 m past the point to reach the back of the 7am peloton – before the start.
The Narabeen Lakes Ladies Swimming Club (NLLSC) A – Team
President , Vice President and Executive Member – Claudia Debra & Helen
BTW The NLLSC was founded in 1933 and recently accepted Male members.
This shot of the Drinks express shows something of todays condition:
High tide, sunny and warm, lots of weed by the shore with some gentle waves into the beach.
Open water A – teamers Nicole, Ali, Jackson & Mark
Jackson & Mark are in full training for next mont’s 20KM Rottnest Island swim.
Hope you have agoodweekend
Simon

- Surf Carnival swim change. It’s that time of year again when our corner is over run. The Manly Surf Lifesaving Open Carnival will be held on 23 January and the Nipper Nats on 25 January 2016 (Saturday and Monday). On both days there will be a very high level of IRB activity in the Southern corner in front of the surf club and the ramp, particularly in the early mornings starting from about 5.30am. On these occasions, we revert to starting from Shelly, swimming to inside the point and then back to Shelly. It is important that we all co operate as the likelihood of head clashes or being run over by IRB’s are increased on these two days. Thank you for your co operation.

Great blog Simon!
Just thought the faithful drinks express team might like to know their leader is currently swimming like an olympian! He set the Avalon Swim on fire and achieved an amazing result, coming in ahead of many very highly regarded open water swimmers. Three cheers for Drinks, looks like a golden season ahead…your 6.30 folks keeping you on your toes.

Thanks for that Fifi. Drinky has kept these successes to himself although he was very aware of his high profile competitors eg Chris Fydler
