Friday 25 March 2016. Overcome double demerits with double merits

25/03/201613

On this good Friday, I saw a Random Breath Testing Police operation on Spit Road and mobile speed units at Balgowlah. I got no demerit points because I was going to a swim in the sea with the Band B. So were these people:

Merryn and her sister

Charl and his friend

Peter wearing a T shirt from Chicago because HE IS FROM CHICAGO!! and David from Qld. Makes my commute seem convenient and handy. Welcome both

Jane brightened up my day.

A swimmer resting before the 7 am set off

Penny Lisa Graham and other swimmers get a double merit for the swim today

John F gets a double merit for bringing this swimmer into the blog. Very persuasive

Pick who is my talent scout. He found a great group of swimmers and then joined them in the shot.

Some awesome swimmers

Jonathan here posing on the right – a lifesaver even though he is not a Lifesaver. Joined by fabulous BB swimmers

An elevated view

Double merit for before swim smiles

A Friday and the benches are being used. Must be a public holiday. Double merit to this lot for spending today swimming

Rob reports that the swim is good.

Sho has appeared more than once in the blog today so far…

See Stay safe information below. This shot looking at the swimmers entering and NOT LOOKING AT THE MASSIVE WAVES COMING OF A SIZE that is outside this bloggers comfort zone. Small puddle forms in swim cap as a result.

Fearless Helen and Sophia

Sunrise from the point

Shelly beach. I will not photo that boat that swung into me (somehow) as I swam across. How does it happen?

Some excellent Shelly companions

Dom and mate

The swimmer in the middle persuaded the swimmer on the left for a first swim. I asked how he had found it.

He is reserving his position

Finally I got out of the sea. There must be a use for my talent of finding myself just at the impact zone when waves break after carefully considering where I should be. Double merits for Chris – here from Hong Kong

Chris with his good friend. I could not recall….. Nicko!

Post swim loitering and coffee

Expert ocean swimmers Phoebe and Charlotte did their first swim with BB today. They brought mum and dad to show them how it is done. Super!

Many swimmers here are triathletes. This smiley future triathlete is putting in some effort on the cycle before hitting the waves. What a gorgeous smile

Melisse completes the 500km swim today with Inge Shelly K and Jeff. Lisa arranges the dramatic reception. Was Melisse sad there were no plastic sceptre and crown or glasses?

Big double merit for the 500km

And in due course….

Fabulous people swim with BB. Double merits for this lot

This week I have been reading Death of an Expert Witness by PD James with Adam Dalgliesh. Oldie but a goodie.

STATS

Double merits for Ian who does the stats by email for the blog as well as SO MUCH ELSE!!!
370 swimmers (Ian counted from the point! 70 at 6.30 and 300+ at 7 am)
17 newbies
24 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

    Great Blog,
But some lesser mortals, ahem, found the undulating course a wee bit too undulating.
Full marks to the survivors, but I beat you all home ! (The Benches)
