Our 1000 km swimmer, Shelley Keeble, came up with today’s blog title! When many of us rolled up at the Surf Club it was only 8 hours previously that we had been dancing to ‘Come on Eileen’ at the B&B Xmas party! It felt like the party hadn’t ended with such a fun and friendly atmosphere down in our favourite corner of the world. Laughter, craziness, a dance as we entered the water, lots of delicious salt water to drink and cake afterwards. Magic! We even had 15 newbies turn up on this balmy and slightly barmy Wednesday morning!
Shelley is looking very happy to be achieving her 1000 km swim today!
A few other merry (or still tipsy) swimmers with us this morning. Rusty!
and Matt!
Amazing Sue, who swims triples most days in all conditions.
Jamie, Shelley and Melisse get smashed by a wave!
Gorgeous warm air though, 20.7 degree water, rough and choppy but no stingers that I heard off. The perfect hangover cure!
These two are awesome legends! Sue has clocked up 135 kms in 30 days and Derek over 150 kms! He is now the champ of the challenge to swim more than 100 kms in 30 days. He’s a Pom too. (Retired firefighter, single and ready to jingle for any interested ladies 😉
Lesbubbs gets in the way of all my attempts at snapping Shelley at Shelly!
But she doesn’t get in the way here! 1000 km badge for you Ms Keeble and what an arch of honour!
Three of our 15 newbies today, all the way from Double Bay.
Now for some photos from last night’s fantastic Christmas party at The Moonshine Bar, The Steyne!
Michele and Ted starting to get rowdy!
Greg makes a good elf!
The biggest tart of the night award goes to Fireman Kenny. He was everywhere, looking very cute with his reindeer hat!
So lovely to have the gorgeous Kath back in Manly, and she’s here to stay, yay!
Best dressed lady was Gayle again!
Maria and Deanna give Santa a kiss!
The band were brilliant, even after the high standard set by James Partington’s group the last few years.
Sarah’s brother turns up and has a ball!
Bryon makes a beautiful princess!
Kenny really was on fire last night 😉
Wendy brings along her hubby. He’s not up for a swim though yet!
Sorry if your photo didn’t make the blog. They are taking a while to download today (or maybe I’m just slowing down!)

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Thanks for a super high energy blog Lainey and thanks to Mgt for a great party night.
(BTW, 24 Hour Party People is currently running on SBS On Demand – a 2002 comedy/mockumentary about Manchester’s music scene 1976-1992 with the brilliant Steve Coogan playing Tony Wilson, founder of Factory Records…don’t know why I thought of us)

Nice blog Lainey. Congratulations Shelley and others who managed a late night and early morning swim! Long distance swimming seems to go hand in hand with long hard partying now!
