25-02-2017 – Many shades of Grey

25/02/20178

Good morning! This is your sunrise today.

Rainer’s brother is visiting from Germany. Here for just a week, he is looking forward to catching the last of days of the Sydney summer. . .

Strangely, the number of swimmers was down on the usual ‘last possible Saturday to grab yourself a 6km badge’ swim. Maybe it was the rain. But, as Ian (Management) profoundly stated over breakfast, “. . . it isn’t any wetter in the water!”

The estimation is there were around 200 (ish) swimmers who roused themselves out of comfortable sleep to stumble in the pre-dawn dark down for a swim. Lisa told me that her scout Edwina had gone early so that she could relay the conditions to their band of swimmers.

Roz did notice that it appears to be just a bit cooler today – just 20.7degrees.

Definitely a grey-blue on grey-blue day. At the point the horizon just blended with the sea and the misty rain.

Then the very delightful Rusty and Mr Bond emerged out of the haze.

Conditions today were really flat with almost zero visibility. The huge plus was nothing stinging or biting- so a pleasant swim was had.

Over at Shelly, Wendy let me know she was on the first of three laps to grab a Triple Badge. . .

At the other end, there is always someone keen to splash about for the blog camera.

While others calmly waited for the official ‘let’s go’.

With today being the final day for a Summer 6km badge, a small band of five intrepid swimmers did leave very early – around 6 (ish) for their 6km. However, after the 7am swim there didn’t appear to be any takers. The quite large group all opted to do a double.  I guess the lure of breakfast was just too strong.

Wendy returned looking pretty chuffed with herself – Triple completed! Now to breakfast.

Bluewater was cosy, the service quick and the company delightful. Why would you want to be anywhere else?

Perfect way to kick off a rather wet day don’t you think?

Have a spectacular Saturday.

Mary

Culture Corner

Two plays I can recommend: First is The Strategic Plan showing at The Stables until 11 March.  If you have ever found yourself dealing with office bureaucracy which just seems an alternative agenda – then you might cringe and nod knowing throughout this play. Great cast including Matt Day (Rake) and Justin Smith.

The other is the classic Australian play by Michael Gow, Away on at the Drama Theatre until 25 March. I understand that this is also on the HSC list for this year! For those of us who grew up in the 60’s, you might recognise the dilemma of family life and expectations and frustrations expressed by depression era parents as the world entered the peace and love Woodstock decade. A little stilted in parts, but overall an excellent production with fabulous performers like Heather Mitchell and Glenn Hazeldine.

The Stats

Temp                    20.7 degrees

Swimmers           210 (or there abouts)

Newbies              Five today!

Sunrise                 6.39am

Sunset                  7.37pm

Great blog Mary. I was one of the wimps who looked out the window and crawled back into bed. Love the final shot.

Top blog Mary. Enjoyed our swim back!
My brother is loving the Sydney summer. In fact, he said our summer is better than some winter days in Berlin!
PS: Nice work Lyndall. You still got it.

Great blog Mary. I love that photo of Melise and Cheryl! It was lovely swimming in the rain today although the dark waters took a little getting used to. Lovely breaky at blue water as well. Great start to my morning

I’ve got a set of small orange flippers, B&B swim cap and clear goggles that were left in the ladies change rom this morning. Are they yours?

I loved my early swim, but next time need to time my return so I don’t get in the way of the big group. Glad the rubbish is gone! Well done Wendy and the 6km group 👍

Four of us took the 6km option @ 7. Allister, Tony, Sean & Martin. A choppy swim back from freshwater.
