This morning was more like a philosophical petri dish than a swim group. As we rolled with the resistance of staying in bed, and committed to the resistance of swimming we remembered that swimming is only possible with the resistance of the water. This morning’s swim reminded me of Hamlet’s remarks to Rosencrantz & Guildenstern… “for there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
We swimmers know that things don’t come with meaning, the only meaning anything has is the one we decide on. So when we encounter resistance in our lives positive psychology encourages us to pay attention to two questions we ask. How long will the impacts last? And what else gets affected? Optimists find short lived and isolated reasons why bad things happen, and the opposite for good things. Our lonely friends the pessimists find the reverse. And while the pessimists are right more often the optimists are happier, healthier, and wealthier and make better friends. That’s why so many swimmers this morning echoed the French Revolutionists declaring ‘vive la resistance.’
Thanks for being a great gang to roll with.
Pete Anthony

Help Nat help kids with SanFillippo Syndrome
I am participating in ENDURE 24 from 6-7 October which is to support the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation which supports research for treatment and a cure for those suffering from SanFillippo Syndrome. Sanfilippo Syndrome is a rare genetic disease which affects the central nervous system of children. I know a family from the Northern Beaches whose children both have Sanfilippo Syndrome. They are beautiful children and to think they may not reach adulthood breaks my heart. ENDURE 24 entails a CrossFit workout on the hour for 24 hours at CrossFit Manly Vale. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause the links are below.Thank you, Nat

Help the kids at Royal Far West
Royal Far West would love to hear from any Bold & Beautiful members who are keen to help run a surf/sail/kayak or paddleboard program for our seniors during the summer months. These are children from the country who are at RFW for the week to receive medical help, speech pathology, OT, and more. We have foster kids, kids who come with their families or from remote areas where there is simply no assistance available. A working with children check and surf lifesaving qualification required. To register your interest or enquire please call Linda Scott on 86226838 or email lindas@royalfarwest.org.au. Other non water based volunteer opportunities are also available.

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each.
