The Lurking Menace…

09/02/20187

No I am not talking about Scrappy Scotty around the rocks… or a sabotaging Richie (who tried to slice me with a cuttlefish today)… I am talking about the dreaded bluebottle!

Even the sky looked ominous this morning…

A good line up of A-teamers this morning. It was James’ 40th birthday last weekend, which we celebrated by going to see Diesel in Newtown (for those who don’t leave the Northern Beaches, its near Sydney University)…

Talking of birthdays, it was Milly’s today! Though I’m not sure she was that pleased about the early start.

Returning 6:30am swimmer Karel was the first indication that the blueys were lurking. He was rubbing an arm on exit!

What was that sound at 7:09am that could be heard across Manly? Was it a small girl crying? Was it a wolf howling at the moon? Was it a lobster being plunged into boiling water?

No. It was Dave Panton getting stung by a bluey!

I compared bluey wounds with him after I got stung between my fingers… only to be laughed down. But the pain is real people… the pain is real!

Claudia copped a nasty one too!

Well with all the action in the water there could only be one winner today. Recording a rare victory (he normally leads the first two thirds and then tires…) was Irishman Alex! Well done mate on beating a stacked field.

I’m currently taking 4 couples through pre-marriage counselling (I’ve taken over 30 weddings and every couple are still together!). Here is some inspiration from Corinthians…

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

Much “love”.

Not sure that Alex was the only winner. I’m certain a few bluies also claimed victory.
Thanks to all who helped me while I was in my world of pain, but particularly to Inge and Peter Ley.
I’m home and now and the pain is subsiding with time and/or Endone.

I want to say a big thank you to Michael in the red rashie. Only met him this morning as getting in the water and he swam the whole way with me and then was my hero when he unwrapped the bluey from my arm!
Also I found an antihistamine and a “stop itch” did wonders for the sting, didn’t welt up as much as previous stings. Yay!

Yes, Edwina, in all sorts of uncomfortable places……and I’m not referring to the Manly vicinity.

I had to make up for encouraging you down to swim this morning!
